Last up in the Jessica Rose | Jewellers Academy Instagram Challenge!!

Some of the things I like to do when I’m not painting jewellery ~

- walks in nature 🌿 I try to walk locally every day and this is me in the nearby Victoria Park Nature Walk (photo thanks to Rhiannon Louden ⚡️Mentor, Speaker + Writer )

- beach walks. North Berwick is a firm favourite! I now have both childhood holiday memories and memories of taking our daughter there on holiday. Plus many many fabulous day trips. I actually learned to swim in the old outdoor pool, not the tidal pool pictured (although I probably swam in that too!)

- reading crime novels. Well this has been a constant since I discovered Agatha Christie around age 14 (and remember buying second hand books in North Berwick with my holiday money!) I love the suspense, especially authors where there is a depth of character. These books are sitting in “contestants row” 😄 which one will I read next? PS thanks to Nicki Croll for some of these!

- Partick Thistle FC I live in a Thistle supporting household ❤️💛🖤 It’s such a warm friendly club and even though I’m an occasional attendee, I just love the sense of community (and the banter!!) at the games. So what are the ducks might you ask?? Given out as part of the fifty fifty draw at the men’s games ~ my husband has been collecting them for me - aren’t they lovely!! I have them sitting on my computer (to remind me to get my ducks in a row, lol)

- and last but not least, time in the garden is a great source of solace 🙏 never enough time (isn’t that trellis really needing a lick of paint!) but the main thing is to catch moments when I can ~ glimmers if you like ~ sometimes all you need is a few moments of pruning or just being ~ and everything makes sense again 💗

Today’s Jessica Rose | Jewellers Academy Instagram Challenge is favourite small businesses!!

Here are some of my favourite Glasgow small businesses:

Bare Bones Chocolate ~ bean to bar chocolate hand crafted in Glasgow. This year I’ve managed to wean myself off milk chocolate (well mostly…) and made quality dark chocolate my go-to sweet treat. Bare Bones has a gorgeous cafe too with fabulous hot chocolate!

Roots & Fruits
Wonderful displays of organic fruit and vegetables (with no faffy, unnecessary packaging) And a super cafe on the corner! Pictured is my favourite Huevos Rancheros!!

Wild Things is my favourite local flower shop. Stunning displays, beautiful bouquets, lots of lovely houseplants and plant pots. And always a great service!

Crossbill Gin (even more of a guilty pleasure than Bare Bones chocolate!) is a very interesting small batch distillery. Each gin has a small number of carefully selected botanicals. And there’s a brilliant Gin School where you can make your own recipe (which is kept and can be re-ordered!) Here’s me putting the wax seal on our own bottle! I would also recommend the Gin Tasting which is paired with Bare Bones Chocolate!

Next up in the Jessica Rose | Jewellers Academy Instagram Challenge ~ my tools!

Other than the pliers in last image, a bit unusual for jewellers as my work is about painting onto pre cut metals ~ the metal serving as a canvas for artwork 🎨

After being opened and used for a while the paints get too thick to paint onto small jewellery pieces. That’s when I paint decorations to enable a zero waste approach ~ cocktail sticks are used for this.
