Not everyone’s taking six weeks off to lie in the sun.

For years, I calculated my freelance day rate based on old salaries.
I’d divide an annual wage by the number of days I thought I’d work, and… done.

Except it wasn’t done.

Because I forgot:
🔸Sick pay
🔸Holidays
🔸Gaps between projects
🔸Software, admin, planning, marketing
🔸Tax
🔸 Actual financial needs

I wasn’t paid more than employees — I just had to pay for more.

I eventually built my own calculator, designed for freelancers (not employees), and it changed everything.

But before I got there, I had to notice what wasn’t working.

How do you get your focused work done? I’ve been on a two-day No Procrastination Retreat with and what a difference it has made! Sitting in a room with 12 other business owners (not just creatives) where we have blocks of silent working together.

It’s is focused, respectful and motivating to know that you are surrounded by folk who’s to do list is getting done!

I’ve managed to set up 13 new workshops, update Facebook ads, newsletter and socials for and then create a summary document for a Artist client from all the info they provided me with for a funding application, proposing next steps!

Alongside walks and wine on the beach, great chats and lovely food. Oh and an amazing big bubble bath.

Do you know if what you're charging as a day rate is actually enough? What do you actually take home after your expenses, non-billable time and holidays? For example, does your £250 per day actually only pay you £114.55.
