Good Afternoon,

I am writing to share an opportunity with you/people in your network. We are recruiting new members of our Executive Advisory Body and wanted to share more information about these roles.

What does it take to move from hope into real action across health and social care?

The ALLIANCE Annual Conference 2026: Hope to Action, taking place on Monday 23 March 2026 at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow. The conference will bring together leaders, practitioners, people with lived experience and community groups from across Scotland.

The full day programme features keynote talks, panel discussions, interactive workshops and creative sessions. Hi Glasgow Carers,

Hope you are well.

As you may be aware from 15th March Scottish Government will be introducing Improvements to Carer Benefits.

One of these improvements is the introduction of Carer Additional Person Payment. The first payment of its type in the UK , it is designed to recognise unpaid carers in Scotland who are undertaking multiple caring roles.

Carer Additional Person Payment is a Β£10 weekly payment, increasing to Β£10.40 from April 2026. It will be paid alongside Carer Support Payment and eligible carers must be:

paid Carer Support Payment
care at least 20 hours per week for one or more additional person(s) who receives a qualifying disability benefit
caring hours can be carried out at the same time across all cared for persons
care cannot be provided as part of a contract of employment or where volunteering as part of a charitable/non-profit organisation

To help with the introduction of Carer Additional Person Payment, Social Security Scotland would like to engage with carers intending to apply. We are looking to complete advance paper applications with existing carers:

in receipt of Carer Support Payment who will be applying for Carer Additional Person Payment or;
carers wishing to make a new combined application to both Carer Support Payment and Carer Additional Person Payment.

Social Security Scotland Programme colleagues would visit your premises during week beginning 9th March to complete paper applications with carers. These applications would processed as part of our final testing taking place on 14th and 15th March to prove our service is working as intended for Carer Additional Person Payment applications opening on 16th March.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could advise whether Glasgow Carers Group would be in a position to identify carers interested in taking part in the advance application process with Social Security Scotland?

Many Thanks

Claire
