Without any prior notice, the government has suddenly announced the closure of SFI.

Farmers are constantly urged to become better business people, to budget carefully, and to forecast their cash flow. But how can they possibly do this when the rules keep changing without warning?

Farming Equipment and Technology Grants are now open.

Granting funding is available for productivity, forestry, slurry and water items.

Grants include:
Direct drills (£17,845 - £40,800)
N sensors (£8,010)
Variable rate controllers (£2,917)
Tyre inflation systems (£4,159)
Cover crop rollers (£2,928 - £4,969)
Liquid fertiliser applicators for drills (£8,880 - £11,031)

The biggest upgrade to agri-environment schemes since the start of the agricultural transition has been announced.

Key changes include:

Payment rates increasing on average by 10% for SFI and CSS options.

50 new actions including options for precision farming and watercourse managment.

A streamlined single application process for CSS and SFI.

‘Premium payments’ for actions which offer the biggest environmental impact and for combinations of actions that deliver benefits at scale.
