IGNITE 2026 •🔥 we’ve a great programme in store and we’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone to this new - and free - festival for Bishop Auckland • light installations, street performers, music and playful workshops
🔥 Friday 20th February: 5pm till 9pm
• The Arrivals Court at Auckland Palace will be open from 5pm with pop-up street food, including a
🟡 LIGHT PARADE with puppets, starting from the Auckland Palace main entrance area at 6pm - parading along the People’s Broadwalk, out through Robinsons Arch and then returning to the Palace for a light switch-on … we’re then on to the
🟠 MARKET PLACE for a light switch-on from 7:30pm - when light installations will come to life in the area:
• mapped projection of children’s work from 9 Primary Schools on to the first floor of the Spanish Gallery
• a super-sized digital frame that’ll display community portraits, which can be added to over the course of the weekend
• interactive light installation within St. Anne’s Church with a volunteer soup kitchen providing hot soup at a low cost to keep us all warm
• local artists’ exhibition in The Artists Hub
• two half-hour harp recitals in The Tower, 7pm & 8pm
🔥 Saturday 21st February: 1pm till 9pm
• playful street theatre between 1pm and 5pm in the Market Place
• 4 half-hour harp recitals in The Tower, on the hour, from 1pm till 4pm
• Storytelling in The Hearth - 30/40mins stories on the hour from 1:30pm (first 2 - 1:30pm & 2:30pm for families with under 5’s)
• Drop-in workshops in The Artists’ Hub - 1pm till 6pm
• Light-up from 6pm - all installations, including Auckland Palace, with performances at the Arrivals Court from the Tree Sprite & Guardian of the Trees puppet 🧡
🔥 Sunday 22nd February: 1pm till 9pm
• playful street theatre between 1pm and 5pm in the Market Place
• drop-in weaving workshops in The Tower from 1pm till 5pm
• Music in The Hearth - 30/40mins set from 3pm
• Drop-in workshops in The Artists’ Hub - 1pm till 6pm
• Light-up from 6pm - as Saturday 💛
