One of the best projects ever ⚓️

Working with Teesside University to deliver this unique experience to visitors of the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum.

Our mission was to deliver a working ships helm which would steer a ship through the waters of a new interactive game.

The ship would have to sail calm waters, rough seas and even avoid a kraken.

When navigating the waters the ambient light changes direction mimicking the natural sun light as you turn port/starboard. It is also one of the first times we have utilised a wind effect into an attraction, when the wind blows from the east and you change course the wind will also change to come from the opposite direction.

Best of all the compass mounted to the helm also changes its heading as the boat navigates the water. This was the second time we’ve integrated dmx servos into an installation to achieve this type of movement.

A new interactive audio system complete, when visitors open the locker doors they can hear the aural history stories from the men and woman who worked within the steelworks. The audio is played through the repurposed radio which is otherwise playing tunes from the era until one of the lockers is activated.

The lockers are also fitted with active low voltage lighting and some retro graphics.

The team have been working in several museums this month replacing existing technology and creating new spaces ready for summer.

IGNITE 2026 🔥 today’s goings-on 🔥 a fun-filled day from 1pm till 9pm:

🔥 Sunday 22nd February: 1pm till 9pm
• playful street theatre between 1pm and 5pm in the Market Place
• drop-in weaving workshops in The Tower from 1pm till 5pm
• Artist Exhibition in The Artists’ Hub - 1pm till 6pm
• Drop-in workshops in The Artists’ Hub - 1pm till 6pm
• Music in The Hearth - 30/40mins set - 3pm & 4pm
… with the bar in The Hearth open from 2:30pm
• pop-up street food Arrivals Court from 5pm
• St. Anne’s Church - indoor light installation with soup kitchen from 5pm
• Light-up from 6pm - all installations, including Auckland Palace, with fabulous performances at the Arrivals Court from the Tree Sprite & Guardian of the Trees puppet 🧡
