Is it right to have a wish list when looking for love?

Ok so it’s obvious isn’t it? When we decide we’re ready to look for a new partner, we have a clear idea in our minds as to what he or she will look like - when I interview people I hear all sorts of prerequisites, a certain height, not over a set weight, socially capable, financially independent, good teeth, good hair (yes!) but actually are we being closed minded? Are we ruling out people that could be our future soul mate?

I ask myself: is it really a prerequisite that we have a wish list or should we trust a professional matchmaker and let them guide us in that decision making process?

If the matchmakers have done a thorough interview process and really dig deep into your life motivations and are consultative in where you see yourself in the future and with whom, should we not leave it them to come up with their choices and embrace them?

If you want a professional service then you need to go to a professional who is going to offer you time and commitment. Going to a professional matchmaker is a different experience to a dating app as they have so much more information on each candidate so trust in the process is key.

You hear the saying time and time again, 'You get what you pay for' and I think in most cases this is spot on. When you pay a fee for a match making service, you should expect that company to come back to you with sensible matches that meet your criteria and at the very least put you together with someone you have some common ground with.

Rewind back to a coffee last week with a single friend of mine who told me about someone she had been messaging back and forth with for a week and who she had a gut instinct' that 'wasn't right'.

Wanting to give him the benefit of the doubt, she agreed to meet him for a local coffee but very quickly decided she should have followed her initial gut instinct. There was really nothing wrong with him she told me, oh, apart from the fact that he slated his ex wife the whole way through the coffee date, swore the whole way through the coffee date and picked at his nails relentlessly through the coffee date. So much time wasted she felt.
