Coffee this morning and thinking about something that comes up again and again in agency teams… where the work matters, the pace is high and the margin for error is small.

The one thing I see again and again is how the people who are most trusted to deliver the work are the ones who end up stepping into leadership roles.

They’re good. Very good. That’s usually why they’re there, but the way they operate doesn’t always shift with the role.

They stay close to everything. They carry more than they need to. They’re still the person everyone goes to, even when technically they don’t need to be.

It works for a while. In fact, it can look like it’s working really well.

Until it starts to show up elsewhere, both at work and at home.

Because leadership at that level isn’t just about capability. It’s about how someone holds pressure, how they make decisions when things aren’t clear, how they respond when something goes wrong or doesn’t go to plan.

That’s the part that tends to get missed. Not in a wellbeing sense, but in a very real, commercial one.

You see it in slower decisions, in things bottlenecking, in too much responsibility sitting in one place for too long.

Most of the work I do ends up sitting right in that moment.

Not teaching leadership theory, but working with how people actually behave when it matters, and helping that shift happen in a way that actually changes how the business runs.

Life will never be perfect. Things don’t go as planned and our time here on earth is full of twists and turns.

What we can do though, is control how we react to our struggles and challenges. 

Embrace the imperfections and realise they are just as important as the rest.

Following my breast cancer surgery 9 years ago I discovered how through the philosophy of Kintsugi, what becomes important is how we handle the situations that don’t go our way.

We shouldn’t hide them away or prevent them from being part of who we are. Instead, we should embrace them and let them make us stronger.

We should grow and allow them to transform us into something beyond our wildest dreams.

Your scars don’t have to be thought of as ugly reminders of something terrible, of the price your body has paid for fighting cancer. By embracing the philosophy behind kintsugi, I have been able to find a way to accept my scars, those visible and those hidden in my heart and mind.

When I look at a business

This is what a group programme looks like in my world.

Small, intimate and strategic.

On Saturday we met for the AlignHER quarterly in-person strategy day.

On the table was pricing strategy, pipelines and profit margins.

The theme that kept coming up was boundaries around clients, pricing, and over delivering so we looked at strategies to take back control of money matters and to increase profit margins.

My client told me she had the best night sleep in years.

AlignHER is my monthly mentorship for female business owners. I am inviting a small number of ambitious women who’d like to grow their business faster in the next few months than they have in years.

I am thrilled to share that I have been chosen as FINALIST in the Women Who Solopreneur Awards 2025.

In the past I have won design awards as a team, so to be recognised as a solopreneur is really special.

A huge thank you to my lovely clients who have put their trust in me to help them grow their business and everyone else who has supported me.

And also thanks to Sandra Garlick MBE and the WomanWhoUK judges for this fabulous opportunity. It is not easy being a solopreneur so to have the right women in your corner makes all the difference.

✨ Today is a Turning Point ✨

I’m spending the day with one of my competition winners , a lovely woman who’s built a business she loves, but finds herself stuck with the same questions I hear again and again:

That’s the work we’re doing today.

"New Messaging. 2 new client calls booked"

That's all her WhatsApp message said. My client was so happy.

Wh? Because there comes a quiet moment in every woman’s business journey when something whispers:

“𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦.”

On the outside? Everything looks fine.

Clients are coming in. Revenue is steady. The calendar is full.

But inside? There’s friction. A kind of fatigue that a strong coffee can’t fix.
