About last night......

We held our 'Next Gen Hereford' event at The Shack Revolution and enjoyed listening to our guests on the sofa discussing the opportunities and challenges facing those at the start of their creative journey.

It was interesting to learn that everyone on the sofa didn't set out to be where they are today, but by networking and being interested in people, their creative pathway opened up.

When discussing how we can help people on the start of their creative journey, each guest made some memorable points;

'In rural areas, we need to get better at telling our stories, so people know what creative pathways are available'.

📌Samantha Lewis
When interviewing for creative positions, we look for personal traits over skill sets. We need to see grit, determination and resilience; we can teach the skills'.

📌Sabeen Chaudhry
'Be good at admin, and be organised! Understand marketing, even if you are not a marketeer'.

HERD's co-founders, Ann Grier, Kristo Shivachev, Seed Groups Phia Folkes and Rural Media's Grant Black & Rich Matthews spoke openly at our event last night discussing collaboration and why it’s so important for creatives right now.

We learnt so much from the panel, here's just a few key comments:

📣 'Your greatest competition can be your greatest collaborator'

📣 'Finding people who can compliment your skillset and who share your creative values and ambition makes for a great collaboration'

📣 'Manage your emotions, everyone has a different perspective on things. They are all passionate and this fuels the collaborative journey. Embrace it, trust, and harvest it'

📣 'We want to get the message across to young people that it's ok to go away from Hereford and come back knowing you can have a creative career surrounded by beautiful countryside rather than a built up city, but with the same career prospects and benefits'

📣 'Be ambitious, but be prepared to pivot so you're more likely to succeed'
