Lovely group today, and to be fair, they usually are at Berrycroft Hub. But the patience and care taken in the production of the sand mould, produces a lovely end result. Well done everyone.

Working with Neil Burridge of Bronze Age Swords has been a real honour, he is the master of the craft, and has been so generous with his time.
I've been bashing rocks by day, and firing up the furnace in the evenings, and I'm thoroughly enjoying 'the fire'. Upwards and onwards. But I have to confess I enjoy the utility tools and decorative items just as much as the axes, daggers and spearheads.

I have been teaching Karl Lee the flint knapper, bronze casting and he is achieving some stunning level already, and i am rather chuffed.
Its still early day but he seems to have "caught the fire" as i call it and he certainly has, i kind of like the idea as my legacy and are happy to teach any one interested in the bronze age and wants to get going.

Looking forward to the knapping workshop at Berrycroft Hub. Always very enjoyable days.

I will be running another Introduction to flintknapping workshop at Berrycroft Hub on the 1st of June 2024.
If you would like to see how intelligent our ancestors were, this is the perfect opportunity.
We have all seen our ancestors depicted as knuckle dragging buffoons in documentaries 🙄, but was this the case? Or were they amazing problem solving artists? Come and find out for yourselves.

If you are interested in the Ancient art of flintknapping (making rocks into things of beauty), I am running a workshop at Berrycroft Hub on Sunday the 21st of January 2024.
This course will be an introduction to the basics of flintknapping. They are always great fun, and I always enjoy getting new students on the road to becoming great flintknappers.
Hope to see you there.

I Had a fantastic weekend running two knapping workshops at Hub just outside Swindon. We'll done to all who attended. I was very impressed with the progress, enthusiasm and knowledge of the groups.
On a personal note, it was very exciting to meet Neville and Sally Hollingworth. This was the extremely talented and knowledgeable couple who discovered the 'Mammoth Graveyard' that Sir David Attenborough visited on 'Attenborough and the Mammoth Graveyard'. If you missed it, It's still on BBC catchup.
Although I worked on the program showing Sir David handaxe and Levallois technology, I didn't get to meet Sally and Neville, so this weekend was very informative, and great fun. I also got to hold the handaxe they found again, and see some of the other amazing finds that were rescued from the site 😯.
As they are both professional palaeontologists, they also kindly brought me a gift I will treasure. A beautiful ammonite they found and conserved. Thank you Sally and Neville.
