£800. That's what my client was quoted to change her domain name. £800. To do something that took us about 20 minutes.

I helped her do it herself. Step by step, no tech jargon, no drama. Done in about 20 minutes. And she didn't need to remortgage her house to pay for it.

This is the kind of thing that happens all the time with small businesses. You get quoted something ridiculous for a job that sounds complicated but really isn't, and because you don't know any different, you assume that's what it costs.

This is why I love what I do. Not every task needs to be outsourced to an expensive agency. Sometimes you just need someone in your corner who can say "you can do this yourself, here's how."

And sometimes you do need someone to take it off your hands completely, and I can do that too. But either way, you shouldn't be paying £800 for a 20-minute job.

If Instagram disappeared tomorrow, how would you talk to your customers?

Bit of a scary thought, right? But it's worth thinking about. You don't own your social media following. Instagram does.

Social media is brilliant for visibility. It's great for getting your name out there and showing people what you do. However, it's not the most reliable way to actually stay in touch with your customers.

Algorithms change, your reach drops, and suddenly the post you spent ages on gets seen by about 12 people.

Your email list is different. Those are people who have actively said "I'm interested in what you're doing." They've handed over their email address because they want to hear from you. That's a big deal.

And the best part? You don't need to post every day or worry about what time the algorithm is feeling generous. You write an email, you hit send, it lands in their inbox. Done.

Whether it's a monthly newsletter, a welcome email for new subscribers, or an automation that brings customers back after they've gone quiet, email marketing is one of the most powerful things a small business can do. And most aren't doing it.

The question I get asked most: ‘But what would I even hand over?’

This comes up a lot, and sometime even with regular clients too. And it makes complete sense, because when you’ve been doing everything yourself for so long, it all feels like it needs you.

But here’s a good way to think about it. Look at your week and ask yourself:

🌞 What do I keep putting off? (That’s probably a good one to hand over.)
🌞 What do I do on autopilot but it still eats my time? (Scheduling posts, replying to routine emails, updating products.)
🌞 What stresses me out because I know I’m not doing it well enough? (Email marketing, website updates, social media consistency.)

Those are your starting points. You don’t need to hand over everything. Just the bits that are quietly draining your time and energy.

One of the things I get asked most is "what would you actually do for me?" and the honest answer is... it depends.

Every business is different, and the support you need might look completely different to the next person.

Say, for instance, one of my clients loves creating her own content but just can't stay on top of posting consistently. So I help her plan, schedule, and stick to a timetable. She stays in the driving seat, I just make sure things actually go out.

Another client doesn't want anything to do with social media. She'd rather spend her time on the parts of her business she actually enjoys. So I create all of her content, schedule it, manage her inbox and reply to comments. She doesn't have to think about it.

Two completely different setups. Both work. Neither is more "right" than the other.

The point is, you don't have to commit to handing everything over if that's not what you need. Even a little bit of support can make a massive difference to your week.

🌞 Klaviyo for email marketing and automations, say, for instance, one that goes out when a customer hasn't ordered in a while to gently bring them back.
🌞 Trello for keeping everything I'm working on across different clients in one place, so nothing slips through.
🌞 And Buffer for scheduling social posts in advance, because no small business owner should be trying to remember to post at 9am on a Saturday.

A look back at what I got up to this month... the clients I worked with, what I actually did for them, a couple of wins I'm proud of, and a few personal bits thrown in too.

It's been a busy one. A Shopify project completed, a solid social media plan put together with a client, and lots of client support in between. A proper mix of creative and behind-the-scenes work, which is exactly how I like it.

On a personal note, I got back into running (the clocks changing was all the motivation I needed), I went to see the Tracey Emin exhibition, and spent Mother's Day on Brighton beach in the sunshine. A good month.
