I know I’m very fortunate to be able to balance work and home life. However there are mornings when I wonder… this morning was one of those mornings!

Walking home from the school and nursery drop off with these two, getting all manner of funny looks.

There’s still some spaces left on my upcoming workshops - GDPR for Small Businesses and Your Privacy Statement.

Are you lost when it comes to lawful bases or doubting your data processes or troubled by transfers of data?

If so, this is for you and these workshops are heavily subsidised by Horsham District Council so are just £20 a day for Horsham based businesses. It’s a total bargain!

Do you always need consent to process data?
The answer might surprise you.

No, you don’t.

It’s important to use the right lawful basis (that’s the reason in law) for holding or using data about a person.
Consent is one of six lawful bases.

Using consent in the wrong situation could cause you problems because consent gives people rights and you might not be able to uphold those rights without it causing your organisation problems.

If you’re not sure what your lawful basis is or need another set of eyes to check it over I can help with that.

When was the last time you checked your privacy statement and tested your lawful basis?

Anyone who knows me will know I love a motivational quote… I would sprinkle them like glitter flipping everywhere!

I have motivational stickers which feature in posts from time to time.

This one always makes me chuckle!

🤣 the reality of trawling through a contract and data protection impact assessment…

This is what happens when someone comes to me and says “I’ve been asked to share data, but can I do that and still be compliant with the law?”

The short answer is “maybe” well… “probably” but we do need to know what’s being shared and why. Then there’s things like telling people what you’re doing with their data and making sure all your ducks are aligned.

I need another coffee and then back to it!

Oooh it’s the best day of the year!

World Data Protection Day is the perfect time to bring attention back to data security and protection, privacy rights and what we can all do to make the world a safer place by reducing the risk of breaches, scams and all the stress and hurt they cause.

Did you know that you have the following rights?

The right to access data held about you.
The right to request that inaccurate information is corrected.
The right to request deletion of data held about you.
The right to move data from one organisation to another.
The right to restrict or limit what your data is used for or how it’s used.
The right to be informed about how your data is used, by whom and whether it’s ever shared.

For you as an individual these rights are designed to put you in the driving seat yet most people don’t know about them or how to exercise them.

If you are an organisation please consider that every customer, staff member or volunteer has these rights.

Happy Data Protection Day!

Meet Eunice the EU Duck!

Did you know that whilst GDPR is an EU law we have UK GDPR as part of our Data Protection Act 2018?

Whether your organisation holds, uses or processes personal data (even just a name and a phone number or address) you need to take steps to ensure that you do so safely and in line with the law.

I help organisations to do this without jargon or judgment. Just down to earth, achieveable advice and a few ducks here and there.

Yesterday I spent the day sat next to Katie Wellman from listening to one after another inspiring speakers at Brand and Deliver, a one-day summit brought to us by the powerhouse that is Michelle Betts of and the oracle on all things marketing Dee Blick .dee.
Highlights of the day for me include finally meeting Lucy Pitts editor of for whom I’m going to be writing a column called Diary of a Start Up.
Too many giggles at and his jokes. The guy just cracks me up!
Richard Betts from who I swear I could listen to for hours. Their adventures just sound phenomenal.

My day was cut short by a call saying my son was having an anaphylactic reaction so, sorry for the abrupt exit!

The joys of being Mummy and running a business.

Thankfully, we’re home from hospital and just chilling today.
