I don't use social media enough in my work but sometimes you just have to share the good stuff!

Last week I was invited to attend the Smiley Charity Film Awards with a CIC that I have worked with for a few years. Sharron, the founder of Give A Few Words, myself and one of their volunteers went on an adventure to London and on Thursday evening at the O2 we were in a room with 1400 people who work in charities of all different sizes, some I had heard of and some I hadn't, all working to make things just a little bit brighter for people across our society.

Give...A Few Words came second in their category, an amazing achievement and testament to the work, dedication and commitment of Sharron and the army of fabulous volunteers. I am so proud and privileged to work alongside them.

Here is the link to the video that made them finalists, it really makes you think.

These last two weeks I have worked on a Friday, my usual non working day. I am not complaining, I have been busy and as I often feel that life as a freelancer means being on the brink of 'what next on this topsy turvey working journey' it has been great being busy.

But today I reclaimed my Friday! I have been out in a field with the birds, trees, a friend and my archery kit. There is something quite mindful about archery, I can't think of anything other than the bow, the arrow, where my arm is, if my shoulder blade is in the right position and the target - my mind has to be empty of everything else for those few moments. In a mind that is often busy, that is bliss and work can wait for a few hours.

A fabulous last week of February. I ventured out to meet two of my clients to discuss exciting plans and changes, and to get some process details confirmed. I love a process!🙂

Then some good solid work back in the office/dining room to make sure all my clients are on a good footing as we enter another month.

A week of being grateful that I enjoy what I do!

Last week was hectic - working bookended days (early mornings/evenings) to make the most of half term, made it very busy but it meant I got to pottery paint, climb, visit family and relax with our two mini humans, and still work with my clients. So grateful to have clients who know the work will get done, even if it isn't necessarily in traditional office hours.

Work last week set the groundings for some interesting stuff this week; exciting changes afoot with one client, online workshops for another client with the first two scheduled for this week, process work for another client and lots of other tasks in between.

So after a weekend of diy and walks taking in the fresh air (and pretty views like the photo) and blowing away the last of the half term cobwebs, I am ready and raring to go!

An afternoon sat by the fishing lake, not my first choice of activity but happy to sit and watch the children fish with their dad and Grandad whilst I do some list making ready for next week! Not a bad way to spend an afternoon in the sun!🌞

The first summer fully self employed has been a mix of joy and juggle, routine returns next week and I think we are all ready but we will miss the luxury of just being, with no clock watching!

Today our children are out for a fun day with their grandparents and I have had a morning trip to a client office to deliver some training. Nice to be returning home in the sunshine with a view of the hills from the train!

I was so busy before Easter that my routine of a lunchtime walk went out of the window. Putting it back in the schedule this week after my time off - I work better for my clients when I have had a break away from my desk!

Getting a bit of work done whilst on the train to meet with a client at their office. Quite nice to have a trip out!

Last week was my first week working fully freelance, everyone who said I would love it is so far 100% correct! A few observations from the last week -

1. I have lovely clients! They wished me luck, sent happy full time business birthday messages, asked for meetings now I actually have the flexibility to meet in person rather than via zoom/Teams and generally made me very thankful for working alongside such fabulous people!

2. Getting out for a walk at lunchtime is lush! It forces me away from my screen, gets me some fresh air and gets some steps done.

3. I am a much nicer person in the morning! Not having to manage myself, two children and my husband out of the house has decreased stress levels for us all.

4. I have loved it!

It was a varied week which is why I enjoy what I do, no two days were the same and included amongst other things:
✔supporting a tender submission
âś” booking train tickets
✔sorting hotel accommodation
✔proofreading
✔diary management
✔minute taking
✔social media scheduling
✔gift research
✔arranging event catering

Nothing like a mixed bag of tasks to keep me entertained!

I spent Friday morning meeting with a local business owner who has been working freelance for around 10 years - it was great to hear some words of wisdom, chat about various things to think about as I enter this new world full time and arrange to meet up again at a coworking space. Plus, the hot chocolate was an added bonus!

Scheduling and planning meetings/discussions is so much of what I do on behalf of my clients, sparing them the time that the toing and froing can sometimes take. When the calendar invite eventually gets sent to confirm the meeting, it is pure joy!
