Energy bills are going up again in July. Ofgem is forecasting a rise to around £1,900 to £2,000 per year for a typical household.
The reason prices keep rising comes down to how the UK energy market works. We import 70% of our gas, and the current pricing system means gas sets the cost of all electricity, even when wind and solar are generating most of it. When something disrupts global oil and gas supply, like the recent Strait of Hormuz closure, we all feel it on our bills.
I've written a post explaining why this keeps happening, and what a solar and battery system actually does to reduce your exposure to it. The payback period on a well-designed system has shortened considerably as prices have risen.
Worth a read if you're watching your bills and wondering whether solar makes sense for you.
