Have you too lost a family member to Duolingo? (dad, come back 😭)

Zaria Parvez, featured in Forbes’ 30 under 30 and the global social media manager at Duolingo šŸ¦‰ flew from the US to share some insight (and maybe apologize for that lost relative šŸ˜)

Duolingo isn’t just another language-learning app, it’s acing the viral marketing game. Their not-so-secret weapon is a famous cheeky green owl that’s conquered TikTok, becoming everyone’s favorite reason to learn a new language.

Here’s what I’ve learned from their social strategy:

šŸ’“ From a 4-hour intermission-free ice-skating musical to making an appearance at the Barbie premiere, Duolingo knows how to make an entrance.

šŸ’“ It turns out, featuring owl in videos really captures hearts (and views!).

šŸ’“ They achieved all this on a smaller budget by breaking the typical brand rules you’d expect from a language-learning app. And that’s exactly why it worked.

It’s got me pumped to bring some of that fearless creativity into our own projects. Who says you need ā€œcash to make a splashā€? Sometimes, you just gotta be bold (strategically of course).

Ok, where do I even begin with the reasons why I might not be the ideal social media marketer for your biz?

If you don’t want to get noticed, don’t work with me because:

I'm brutally honest. I might suggest your branding needs updating or your content isn't resonating with your audience. But wouldn't you prefer feedback now over failures later? I'm being direct to steer us in the right direction and achieve real progress :)

I love to experiment. I might suggest exploring new methods or testing different strategies. Isn't that how you stand out? I'm here to push you beyond your comfort zone, including getting in front of the camera.

I work efficiently. I might automate some tasks and schedule content in advance. But don't you want to free up your time to focus on other strategic areas? Automation ensures your social media runs smoothly while we handle the bigger picture.

I'm a data nerd. In my corporate days, I spent 10 years crunching spreadsheets. Now in social media marketing, I meticulously analyze audiences and metrics. Wouldn't you want someone who deeply understands your audience and crafts tailored strategies for maximum impact?

I'm a content stylist. I might switch writing styles from playful to informative to persuasive depending on the platform and audience. But don't you want someone who can tailor messages to resonate with each segment of your community? My versatility ensures your content speaks to everyone, in their own language.

I'm not always a yes-sir person. I might question your assumptions and encourage unconventional thinking. But isn't that necessary for pioneering campaigns? Critical thinking avoids mediocrity and drives innovation.

I'm a relentless learner. I study and stay updated with the trends through courses and news. Keeping up with Adam Mosseri's announcements takes dedication, but we can discuss it later ;) Don't you believe it's crucial to have someone always in tune with social media changes?

1. Targeting is crucial! šŸŽÆ Identifying your audience is the first step to success. Know exactly who you want to reach.

2. Your message should stand out in a sea of content. Highlight what makes you special ✨

4. Be bold, be different. 🧨 Think outside the box to captivate your audience.
