Lynton 2-1 Combe Martin
Our reserves took a short trip over Exmoor on Saturday to face local rivals Lynton, looking to pick up another positive result on the road.
The first half was a fairly even affair, with both sides struggling to really find their rhythm. The home team took the lead after around 15 minutes, but the boys continued to work hard and created a few half chances of their own, including one effort which struck the post. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find the equaliser before the break and went into half-time 1-0 down.
We came out for the second half with a much better approach. There was more pace and purpose to our attacking play, particularly down the flanks, and we began putting Lynton under more pressure.
Despite creating opportunities, we couldn’t quite find the breakthrough and, with around 20 minutes to go, Lynton doubled their advantage on the counter-attack.
To their credit, the boys didn’t let their heads drop and continued to push to get themselves back into the game. That pressure eventually paid off when Levi Peach-George arrived into the box and calmly swept the ball into the bottom corner to make it 2-1.
We pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but unfortunately it proved too little, too late and the game finished 2-1.
Man of the Match – Jamie Prideaux
There were plenty of opinions after the game, but we unanimously agreed that Jamie was the most deserving recipient of Man of the Match.
Another solid performance from Jamie, who locked down the left side of the defence and gave the opposition very little joy down that side. A consistent and composed display throughout.
The result may not have gone our way, but there were plenty of positives to take from the second-half response and the character shown to keep pushing right until the final whistle.
The reserves will be looking to bounce back next time out with a trip to Northam Lions on the 26th. ⚽
