4. Don't overpersonalize.

There's so much going on in the world at the moment, and it's okay if that is overwhelming or if you're feeling low about it.

We have a habit, as humans, of playing into our natural 'negativity bias' — an in-built protective mechanism to keep us out of danger. But in a modern world where news is everywhere, this bias tends to work against us.

Naturally it's important to stay informed, but if the news is starting to negatively affect you or even making you anxious, there are a few things that can help reduce this feeling:

💛 Try not to read the news or 'doom scroll' close to bedtime.

💛 If you find your thoughts spiralling to worst-case scenarios, make a conscious effort to notice these thought patterns and practice acknowledging them, and letting them go.

💛 Follow good news places and positive accounts on social media or via newsletters (try , or Psychologies of course!) to balance out the negativity.

💛 Set time limits on any apps you might use to get your news and remember to take breaks. Many social media sites have these options now!

💛 If you find yourself feeling worked up, put your phone down (or mute the TV/radio) and do some slow, deep breathing. Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 7, then exhale for 8.

💛 Be kind to yourself and to others.

Lots of love x

A supportive other half isn’t someone who will hang on your every word and do whatever you want. That clinginess isn’t true love. This is.

friendship is so important, whether it is a friend in a new location or one in a previous location who remains in touch or even a group of online friends who are in similar circumstances. I have many online friends who I befriended whilst an expat and who I still have never met but we've shared what we were going through at the time and it helps.

If you're going through challenging times, you need to recognize the importance of friends. Here's why you should reach out for support.

life can be like this - homes, friends, time, new locations

I believe that when we deeply love someone, we may need to walk away and begin our lives again, but we still may feel the caring we had for them.

Just because we feel that twinge of “missing them” it sure doesn’t mean you want them back especially if it’s a relationship that has been abusive and toxic.
So if you’re ever tempted by the mind to believe “it’s ok, they’ve changed, it wasn’t that bad” stop in that moment, take a few breaths and repeat to yourself. “It is what it is, I don’t want them back, I’m just momentarily missing him or her.
This is true for any relationship we have my loves; work, family, things.
