I am absolutely delighted and deeply honoured that we were awarded last night the Startup Business of the Year 2026 for JMD Building Consultancy.
When we launched the focus was to deliver high-quality commercial and residential building surveying, we knew we were taking a massive leap. In surveying, we spend our days assessing foundations and structural integrity. Launching a startup tests your own foundations in ways you never quite expect!
This recognition means so much to us, and there are several people who have been absolutely instrumental in getting JMD Building Consultancy to achieve this award:
Isle of Wight Chamber: Thank you for hosting a truly wonderful evening and for creating an environment where local business can connect and thrive.
PC Consultants: Our sincere thanks for sponsoring this category and for your continued support of the Island's business community.
To my fellow nominees: Sincere congratulations to Diamond Adventures and PENNY Tree Surgery & Landscaping. It was a privilege to be nominated alongside you both. Congratulations and all the best to you both in the future.
Rhys King MRICS: Thank you for your persuasion and for giving me that vital push to take the leap into business ownership. We wouldn't be here without that initial conversation.
Rebecca Wheeler and Sau-Wan Lai: Thank you for your brilliant advice, the excellent leads, and for always being on hand with invaluable support whenever the inevitable imposter syndrome started to creep in.
And finally, to my wife and fellow director: This year brought challenges far greater than anything we faced in business. In March, my wife had a life changing accident which has meant that she is now in a wheelchair. The sheer determination, resilience, and grace she has shown in her battles since that day have been nothing short of extraordinary. She is the ultimate inspiration behind everything I do, and the true reason we have been able to receive this award!
