Hospitality VAT isn't just a restaurant issue – it's a glamping issue too.
Across the UK, hospitality businesses are facing rising costs, tighter margins and increasing pressure on profitability. Yet UK hospitality continues to pay one of the highest VAT rates in Europe at 20%, while countries including France, Spain and Italy benefit from rates around 10%.
For many glamping operators, a reduction in VAT could mean:
✅ More money to reinvest in your business
✅ Greater ability to employ local people
✅ Improved competitiveness against overseas destinations
✅ More affordable UK holidays for guests
✅ Stronger rural tourism economies
The campaign is calling on Government to reduce hospitality VAT from 20% to 10%, bringing the UK more in line with the rest of Europe. The campaign is already backed by major hospitality organisations, spearheaded by Tom Kerridge and supported by thousands of businesses across the sector.
As an industry built on providing memorable guest experiences and supporting local communities, glamping has a voice in this conversation.
GITA encourages all members to learn more about the campaign, sign the petition and help ensure the glamping sector is represented in the push for a fairer VAT rate.
