As part of our "gardens of Italy" hols we visited this fantastic 20th century garden designed around the ruined village of Ninfa. Abandoned in the 14thC following malaria epidemics, the Caetani family have made efforts to bring the Ninfa back to life since the 15thC. It was Gelasio Caetana who began restoring the buildings but it was her English mother, American daughter-in-law, and her granddaughter, Lelia, who designed and laid out the current garden. Lelia died in 1977
