24/7 Mental Health Texting Service for anyone in crisis anytime anywhere

Text SHOUT to 85258

* 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England according to Mental Health Charity Mind
* 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (like anxiety and depression) in any given week in England

In any given week in England:

* Mixed anxiety and depression: 8 in 100 people
* Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD): 6 in 100 people
* Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD): 4 in 100 people
* Depression: 3 in 100 people
* Phobias: 2 in 100 people
* Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD): 1 in 100 people
* Panic disorder: fewer than 1 in 100 people.

Reports from both England and Wales suggest that:

* Approximately only 1 in 3 adults with a common mental health problem are currently getting treatment in the form of talking therapies, medication, or both.
* The most common treatment offered is psychiatric medication

The overall number of people reporting mental health problems has been going up in recent years.

* The amount of people with common mental health problems went up by 20% between 1993 to 2014, in both men and women.
* The percentage of people reporting severe mental health symptoms in any given week rose from 7% in 1993, to over 9% in 2014.
* The number of young women reporting common mental health problems has been going up

We also know that:

* People reporting self-harm went up by 62% between the years 2000–2014 (that means it more than doubled.
* People reporting having had suicidal thoughts within the past year went up by 30% between the years 2000–2014.
* The number of people who self-harm or have suicidal thoughts is rising faster than the number of people experiencing mental health problems overall.
* This might mean that people are finding it harder to cope with mental health problems.

This is why services like this texting service are greatly needed

Flood alert for Hull as map shows areas at risk - after heavy rain returns
The Environment Agency's flood map shows most of Hull is at risk of flooding today

A flood alert has been issued for Hull and surrounding areas including Cottingham and Bransholme after heavy rain today (Thursday).

It is a "be prepared" alert, which means flooding is possible. People in the flood risk zones should keep up to date with alerts and check they have their medicines and insurance documents to hand.

On its website tonight (Thursday, October 26) the Environment Agency reported: "Levels on watercourses in Hull and East Riding are responding to today’s rainfall, having already been high following Storm Babet at the weekend. Low lying roads and land adjacent to watercourses in this area are at risk, in particular around Mill Beck in Cottingham

"Further rainfall is expected throughout the rest of the day today, and we expect levels to remain high for the next few days. Avoid using low lying footpaths and roads near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water

This flood alert area covers the entire lower River Hull area, including Cottingham, Kirk Ella, Anlaby, Hessle, Bransholme, and the city itself. The Environment Agency will update its website if the information changes

Rain should die out tonight and Friday should remain dry, but more wet weather could be coming Hull's way, with showers forecast on Sunday and potential for more heavy rain on Wednesday (November 1). Chanterlands Avenue in West Hull was part submerged in the deluge brought by Storm Babet over the weekend, with photographs showing vehicles battling through standing water under the railway bridge.

The European Union is after microplastics – and glitter is on their hit list.

In an effort to restrict the sale of plastics less than five millimetres small, the EU has enacted a ban against the shimmery powder, including the kind often used in makeup products. As of 18 October, no resident will be able to buy or sell glitter across the 27 European countries in the EU.

However, the EU isn’t prohibiting all types of glitter, as any environmentally-friendly alternative is still allowed.

According to the European Commission, biodegradable glitter is perfectly OK. “The purpose is not to ban all glitter but replace plastic glitter with more environmentally-friendly glitter that does not pollute our oceans,” the statement read. “Only glitter made of non-biodegradable, insoluble plastic is concerned.”

More specifically, any glitter made from “soluble, natural or inorganic” material can be bought and sold in the EU.

Fraudsters are targeting small businesses on Facebook
Which? warns business page owners on Facebook to beware of the 'permanent page deletion' scam

Which? has found multiple phoney profiles on Facebook that purport to be from Facebook and its parent company Meta.

Scammers impersonating Facebook are sending direct messages telling business page owners that their pages will be deleted for infringing Facebook's trademark rights.

The message tells you that 'your page is scheduled for permanent deletion due to a post that infringed upon Facebook’s trademark rights'.

It then goes on to invite you to ‘file a complaint seeking the reinstatement of your page prior to its removal from Facebook’ if you think there’s been a misunderstanding.

The message also says: ‘We understand that this situation may impact your ongoing business operations. However, please be informed that if we do not receive a complaint from you, our decision will be final.’

We know of at least 10 fake profiles that are sending these scam messages.

The messages we have seen are being sent from:

Compliance Implementation Team
Meta Page Support
Compliance Department
Brand Content
Security Authentication Group
Compliance Management
Our Terms of Service
Meta Business Support
Meta Business Suite Support
Meta Pay Support

None of these are official Meta – the owner of Facebook – or pages.

Which? always recommend that you never click on suspicious links sent in messages like these, but for the purpose of this research we clicked the link to see how this scam works.

The link led to a website impersonating Meta. It even contained a genuine link to Meta’s privacy policy, to provide an element of authenticity.

When we clicked ‘Request of Review’, we were taken to another webpage where we were asked for our details. The page titled ‘Intellectual property violation’ asked for our name, email address, phone number and why we were appealing the policy violation.

It's unclear exactly what scammers intend to do with these details, but fraudsters often use intel gathered on you to engineer a scam and target you at a later date or to access your online accounts.

Which? shared their findings with Meta and it confirmed that this is a scam.

Forthcoming changes to fire safety legislation for Businesses and Property Owners

https://humbersidefire.gov.uk/newsroom/news/forthcoming-changes-to-fire-safety-legislation

From 1 October 2023, new fire safety legislation comes into effect which will impose new duties on businesses and buildings owners.

The Fire Safety Order is the primary fire safety legislation in England and Wales, and it applies to all non-domestic premises as well as the communal parts of residential buildings. Changes to this legislation have been introduced through the Building Safety Act 2022 and represent the next phase of the governments fire safety reform programme.

The main changes introduced by the legislation are:

Written fire risk assessment and fire safety arrangements

The previous requirement to have a written fire risk assessment only applied in certain circumstances (e.g. where the responsible person employees five or more persons). This will no longer be the case, and if you are a responsible person, then you will need to record both your fire risk assessment and fire safety arrangement in full, regardless of the size or purpose of the business or premises.

* Enhanced requirements for cooperation and coordination

In premises where there is more than one responsible person, for example in multi-occupied premises or buildings where the occupier and building owner are different entities, there are increased requirements for cooperation and coordination between responsible persons.

* Provision of information to residents
In residential buildings with two or more domestic premises (e.g. blocks of flats) then the responsible owner must provide residents with information on the risks from fire within their building and the fire safety measures provided to keep them safe. This requirement expands upon legislation introduced earlier this year that required responsible persons to provide residents with information on emergency procedures and the importance of fire doors.

For further information on all the changes to legislation and what you need to do to comply, the Government has published guidance which is available on the Government's website.

From 1 October 2023, new fire safety legislation comes into effect which will impose new duties on businesses and buildings owners.
