Japan 🇯🇵 (part 2)

My heart is full from the unique experiences and beautiful people I’ve met over the past few weeks. Over 30 KonMari Consultants from all over the world joined the retreat to meet up with Marie Kondo and the KonMari team. We also had the unique opportunity to meet up with some of the Japanese KonMari Consultants 💙

Photos explained:

2. Exploring Omicho Market 🦀

3. Bag charms are a thing!

4. Next level origami 💫

5. Attending a gold leaf workshop in Kanazawa

6. Higashi Chaya-Gai = Geisha District

7. Slippers for the bathroom (a KonMari Consultant, who will remain nameless, decided to wear them for dinner one night!)

8. Experiencing a ryokan, a hotel with an onsen, where you ate encouraged to wear your yukata 🙏🏼

9. A full itinerary for our seminar day with and her husband Takumi 📖

10. Bento box of dreams 🍱

11. I decided to write Marie a letter in Kanji ✉️

12. Google translate approved of my Kanji! 🙌🏻

13. Marie and Takumi delivered some wonderful presentations, providing lots of food for thought 💭

14. Presentation from Yuko Daguchi (putting words to your intention: a shado calligraphy experience)

15. Meeting the Japanese Consultants and automatically feeling like you’ve found your tribe 💕

16. So many beautiful human beings in one space, all connected by Marie’s joy of tidying 🤗

17. Adventures in the stunning gardens at Kenroku-en 兼六園

19. The view from Ayatori Bridge あやとりはし

20. Sue and I enjoying one of the many kaiseki meal experiences - a meticulously crafted, multi-course tasting menu that balances the taste, texture, appearance, and colors of seasonal ingredients. Rooted in the Japanese tea ceremony and the philosophy of omotenashi (selfless hospitality) 💙

Have you been to Tokyo? Let me know your favourite spots to visit 🤗

It’s been a busy first day, but I’ve managed to do a lot despite the jet lag. I left London at 9am on Tuesday, and arrived in Tokyo 7am on Wednesday. This fact makes my head ache!

🇯🇵 I’m delighted to be heading to the KonMari retreat in Japan! It’s been over 10 years since my last visit, before I found Marie Kondo’s book - the book that transformed my life for the better.

As you can expect, I’ve packed my suitcase KonMari style (carry on only - the 20-year old shopaholic Katrina can hardly believe this is a reality now!).

Do you find packing stress free or stressful? Either way, if you’re hoping to improve your packing skills, I have a blog post just for you:

Enjoy! And see you on the other side ✈️

This week, a lovely client invited me to her textile stockroom at The Design Centre at Chelsea Harbour.

Over 6 hours, we decluttered her entire stockroom, ensuring she has a work space which is easy to navigate with excellent organisational systems in place. Now, with a tidy space, her work efficiency will improve as well as her level of calm as she and her colleagues enter this space.

Tidying sessions are not only transformative in a home setting, they are also essential to create streamlined working environments, in an effort to enhance one’s productivity and wellbeing. Why shouldn’t our work space spark joy too?

Let’s achieve the same level of tidy calm in the garage too. This week, a lovely client invited me to her garage space, which contained a whole host of items needing decluttering and organising.

Fun fact: Only about 20% UK garage owners regularly use their garage to park their car. The vast majority - up to 80% - never or rarely park inside them, typically using the space to store household items, garden equipment, or as a home workshop.

What’s inside your garage? Is it a no-go storage unit or a home for your car?

Are you ready to start tidying your sentimental category? The final category in the KonMari Method, and often the toughest to tackle, is sentimental items. If you’ve completed all four tidying categories prior to this in full (clothes, books, paperwork and komono), your joy check is more refined, and therefore you’re better prepared to decide what to do with the items closest to your heart.

If you need support with this category, please read this blog post:

How do you work through the final category of the KonMari Method: Sentimental Items? Katrina provides her guidance and the steps you can take…

Geneva bound 🇨🇭

A long-term client has invited me to Geneva to help her settle in to her incredible new home. Over 10 days, I will help the family create a joyful, ordered home and train the housekeepers to maintain the systems we put in place.

This is my second international trip, and the second organising trip for Hampstery too (Hermione’s pet Hampster). Hampstery always accompanies my husband and I on work trips, and we send the children photos of him in different scenarios. It helps Romeo and Hermione feel part of what’s going on when we all miss each other 💙

12 days away = 1 carry on suitcase 🧳
KonMari packing at its finest. If you want to up your packing A-game, check out my stories where I’ve shared a blog post on how to ‘KonMari your suitcase’ - a must read for calmer travel prep. You’re welcome 💙
