Threshold ISR has been back out to Estonia this week, attending an air defence live firing demonstration in Rutja, which saw both missile and cannon systems engaging DART fixed wing & PARM multi-rotor Uncrewed Aerial Targetry (UAT), supplied and expertly operated by our partners, KrattWorks.

We were also fortunate to host a small delegation from the British Army on this trip, whose interest in both the UATs and the Estonian's tactics made for a fascinating and engaging event. It was also great to meet up with so many like-minded individuals from industry, the armed forces, and defence technolgy laborotories from around Europe, who are committed to putting in the legwork to strengthen our collective defence.

Realistic target sets which enhance training by emulating the contemporary drone threat, are vital in sharpenning the combat edge. And making UATs more affordable makes them more accessible, allowing those who defend our skies to practice their counter-drone skills more often, and more effectively.

If you would like to know how Threshold ISR Ltd can help you resource and enhance your counter-drone and air defence training, then contact us on [email protected] for a no commitment, no fee consultation.

Threshold ISR's background is rooted in Land and Air operations, but we are currently exploring opportunities to better understand and support the Maritime and Litoral domains. So what better way to kick that off than to attend the inaugural Lord Fisher Lecture at RUSI - Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies, presented by the First Sea Lord (1SL) & Chief of the Naval Staff, General Sir Gwyn Jenkins.

Clear, concise, and open to challenge, 1SL shared his vision for a modern, hybrid Royal Navy, anticipating uncrewed and autonomous capabilities complimenting Carrier Strike Groups as surface and subsurface es**rt vessels, with jet-powered UAS operating from the deck of those carriers, all within the next 2 years.

Delivering this vision will require drive, pace, and the ability to harness rapid innovation and procurement mechanisms measured in months and not years.

Harsh temperatures and the Baltic snow doesn’t stop training!

Working with our partners KrattWorks, Threshold ISR Ltd was proud to be able to support the British Army and NATO Battlegroup Estonia with the PARM uncrewed aerial target system during a counter-drone shotgun course being delivered in Estonia, recently.

Developing the skills to defend themselves and their comrades from the drone threat isn’t optional, it is vital for the modern battlefield, and realistic training like this can make all the difference.

Today the team responded to reports of an unauthorised drone in Kimpton Road, Luton, the pilot being quickly located.

After establishing the facts the pilot has been reported to court for 4 offences. This is as a result of his behaviour and how he used the drone without the correct permission to do so.

They are as follows:

* Flying a drone in a Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ)
* Having no operator ID
* No insurance when flying a drone for commercial use
* Obstruct police for giving us false details

The drone has now been seized and will be examined, being used as evidence linked to this investigation.

On the 4th anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Threshold ISR attended a Royal United Services Institute panel discussion on the prospects for peace. A subject which still remains complex and highly emotive. And we are reminded that although four years have passed since the invasion, Russia has actually been attacking Ukraine for 12 years now.

We salute the defenders; those who have sacrificed and paid the ultimate price for freedom, and those who continue to sacrifice to ensure that Ukraine has a future.

And in the words of one of today's panelists, which clearly underlines their resolve:

"In a recent poll, 75% of Ukrainians stated that they would be prepared to endure the war for as long as it takes."

Enough said.

Thankfully no one was injured, this time.

Between the fine, court costs, damages, and the destruction of his drone, it is likely this man's actions cost him in excess of £4000.

But had he collided with air traffic, from either the airport, or any that may have been called to support the incident, the cost to him and the public could have been devastating.

Christopher McEwan is told to pay £2,910 at Norwich Magistrates' Court after admitting 16 offences.
