Today, Threshold ISR Ltd was fortunate to attend an East of England Regional Defence & Security Cluster symposium in Huntingdon, in partnership with UK Defence Innovation, and RAF Wyton, to better understand Project FAIRFAX and how East Anglian defence industry can work more collaboratively with the MOD.

A fantastic event with some excellent speakers, and a timely deep dive into the practical implications of the UK's Defence Investment Plan (DIP).

Of note, the £5Bn earmarked in the DIP over the next 4 years for autonomy is indicative (but not the whole picture) of the amount of investment expected for drone and counter-drone systems and associated capabilities, when viewed across multiple domains.

Key takeaway:

Innovation tourism is over. Prototype warfare is the standard. [MOD] needs technology from anywhere it exists, not just the traditional defence supply chain.

Exciting times.

Threshold ISR has been back out to Estonia this week, attending an air defence live firing demonstration in Rutja, which saw both missile and cannon systems engaging DART fixed wing & PARM multi-rotor Uncrewed Aerial Targetry (UAT), supplied and expertly operated by our partners, KrattWorks.

We were also fortunate to host a small delegation from the British Army on this trip, whose interest in both the UATs and the Estonian's tactics made for a fascinating and engaging event. It was also great to meet up with so many like-minded individuals from industry, the armed forces, and defence technolgy laborotories from around Europe, who are committed to putting in the legwork to strengthen our collective defence.

Realistic target sets which enhance training by emulating the contemporary drone threat, are vital in sharpenning the combat edge. And making UATs more affordable makes them more accessible, allowing those who defend our skies to practice their counter-drone skills more often, and more effectively.
