Just because it’s the school summer holidays doesn’t mean your visibility needs to stop.

I know summer can feel like a juggling act when you’re running a business and entertaining the kids, but disappearing for 7 weeks can make it much harder to get momentum back in September.

That’s why, for the next 7 weeks, I’ll be sharing a daily 5-minute visibility tip with Boss Mums members. Simple, realistic actions you can fit around family life to help keep your business visible without spending hours on marketing.

If you’re sitting on the fence thinking, “I’ll join Boss Mums after the summer holidays,” I’d join now.

Why wait until September to start getting seen when you could spend the summer building visibility, connections and opportunities?

The businesses that stay visible over the summer are often the ones that hit the ground running when the schools go back.

Who’s committed to staying visible this summer?

Help Wanted from the Boss Mums Community

I’m reaching out on behalf of one of our wonderful Boss Mums who is looking for a treatment room to rent or use for her business.

She offers Reiki, massage and holistic therapies and is looking for a calm, welcoming space where she can support her clients and continue growing her business.

Do any of my connections know of:
✨ Treatment rooms available to rent
✨ Salon spaces with a spare room
✨ Wellness centres or complementary therapy spaces
✨ Anyone looking to share a treatment room

Ideally we’re looking for something local, but we’d love to hear about any opportunities.

I’m excited to be taking Lanarkshire Boss Mums Network along to the Scottish Marketing Summit 2026

Over the last few years, I’ve watched Susan Carruthers passion for this event grow day by day. Every conversation, every update, and every step forward has shown just how much heart and hard work goes into bringing something like this to life.

In many ways, it’s reminded me of my own journey building the Lanarkshire Boss Mums Network. When you’re creating a community or an event from the ground up, people often only see the finished product. They don’t see the countless hours, the challenges, and the determination behind the scenes.

That’s why I’m so pleased to be supporting Susan and bringing my business along to experience what promises to be an incredible day of learning, inspiration and connection.

Who’s coming to the Scottish Marketing Summit 2026?

I’d love to see some familiar faces there!

For me, networking is definitely a choice, not a chore.

In fact, it’s the reason I created the Lanarkshire Boss Mums Network. I wanted to make networking more accessible, supportive, and realistic for mums in business.

One thing I’m noticing at the moment is that many women want the connection, support, and opportunities that networking brings, but they’re feeling torn. They’re under pressure to focus on activities that generate immediate income, so networking can feel like a luxury rather than a priority.

The irony is that some of the best opportunities, collaborations, referrals, and clients I’ve gained have come through networking and relationships built over time.

I don’t see networking as time away from my business. I see it as an investment in my business. The key is finding networking opportunities that are worth your time and genuinely support your goals.

What started as a simple ask to tidy up my Canva-designed logo turned into so much more.

When I first approached Lesley at Owl Luminous, I thought I just needed a few professional tweaks I had no idea we were about to embark on a complete rebrand journey.

Lesley understood the heart behind Boss Mums, our community, and the bigger vision I have for the future. The result is a brand that feels aligned, professional, empowering, and truly represents who we are today.

I’m so proud to share Lesley’s case study, which gives a behind-the-scenes look at the journey and the thinking behind the Boss Mums rebrand. Thank you, Lesley, for bringing it to life.

Why Networking Will Always Be My No. 1 Marketing Tool

I understand strategy, branding, social media, sales funnels and all the things you’re supposed to do to grow a business.

But after years of building my own business, one thing continues to outperform every marketing tactic I’ve ever tried:

Relationships.

Networking has been my number one marketing tool because people buy from people they know, trust and genuinely connect with.

It’s not about walking into a room and trying to sell yourself. It’s about showing up consistently, being curious about other people, celebrating their wins, listening to their challenges and finding ways you can support one another.

The opportunities that have changed my business didn’t come from a perfectly crafted sales post.

They came from a conversation over a coffee.
A recommendation from someone who knew what I did.
A woman who remembered my name months after we met.
A connection that slowly grew into trust.

Social media can introduce you to someone.

Networking is where the relationship begins.

And that’s exactly why I created Lanarkshire Boss Mums Network. Not just another room full of people handing out business cards, but a community where relationships are built, collaborations happen and women in business genuinely cheer each other on.

So if you’re looking for the one marketing strategy that will still be working for you years from now…

Go and meet people.

One of the hardest parts of running a membership is accepting that you can create the most supportive space, set clear expectations, and encourage kindness… but you cannot control human behaviour.

Every single one of us comes with our own experiences, personalities, opinions and sometimes, yes, we get things wrong. We say something in the wrong way, make assumptions, have misunderstandings or handle situations in a way we wish we hadn’t.

What makes me sad is when I hear:
“I won’t join because of this person.”
“I’m leaving because of that person.”
Or I wake up on a Sunday morning to messages about frustrations between members.

Because the reality is, I’m not a huge corporation or a faceless organisation. I’m just a mum trying to build something wonderful for other mums in business. I pour my time, energy, heart and love into creating a space where women can connect, support each other and grow.

I can facilitate the space, I can set the tone, and I can encourage kindness and respect, but I cannot control every interaction or relationship within it.

A community isn’t built because everyone agrees all of the time. It’s built because we choose to communicate with respect, show kindness, have honest conversations and remember that the person on the other side is human too.

My role is to continue leading with clear values and creating a culture where people feel welcomed, included and supported.

But all of us have a responsibility to contribute to that culture.

Because the most powerful communities aren’t perfect. They are made up of imperfect humans who continue choosing kindness.
