Kevin Riley “Being in business should give you more life.”

4 x Founder | Business Coach | Keynote Speaker | Dad I'm a failed businessman.

I work with business owners and leadership teams to scale up sustainably, build high-performing teams, and achieve their goals and dream life. I do this by coaching founders, CEO’s and business leaders to build profitable, commercial enterprises that grow beyond their personal capacity - and give them more life in the process. As a guide at your side, I enable the application of proven strategies

with high accountability, real connection, and - always - fun. My first business was brought to an abrupt end by internal fraud. Telling my team- my friends - that they no longer had jobs was one of the hardest moments of my life. After personal loss in my youth, I promised myself to always find the good, no matter how painful the lesson. Although I keep that failure with me and will always describe myself as a failed businessman, the final days of that company would not erase the 19 incredible years that came before it. Now, I help other business owners avoid my mistakes, overcome their challenges, and grow with confidence. I’ve realised that I can do this on a much greater scale through impactful keynote speaking, positively affecting and emotionally moving large audiences. Coaching 360 is a business that no longer relies on me day-to-day. That allows me the freedom to focus on what I love: coaching, speaking, learning to fly, and spending quality time with my family.

Harry’s back from university in Belfast.

There’s something lovely about your children going away, growing up, becoming more independent, and then coming home still pleased to be home.

Last year there were a lot more questions. Flights, packing, storage, all the little things that come with moving between home and university.

This time he sorted it. Flights booked, things packed up, everything into storage. No fuss or ‘help me’ queries.

Then he gets home and asks, “Any jobs going?”

Music to my ears.

We’ve got furniture to build and about 150 plants that need planting. So his timing is excellent.

More than anything, it’s just been a real pleasure having him around.

Proper conversations. Pool and darts in the games room, Golf and training together for a triathlon and all four of us being in the same house again.

You only really notice what someone brings to a home when they’ve been away from it for a while.

He should be very proud of the independence.

Even more pleased he still wants to come back.

players aren’t just high performers.

They’re people who perform well and fit the values of the business.

That distinction matters.

You can often develop someone who has the right values but needs better skills, clearer expectations or more support.

But someone who is highly productive and a poor values fit is a different problem.

Some business owners tolerate it because they get results.

I wouldn’t.

Eventually, you fall out around values. And until then, the rest of the team can see the standard you’re allowing.

If you want a £5 million business, start acting like the owner of one before you get there.

That means better decisions, better delegation, clearer standards, and growing your team’s capability before the business outgrows them.

Some people will grow with the business. Some won’t.

That’s not always a bad thing.

But pretending nothing has changed is where the problems start.

Growth doesn’t come from holding onto what’s no longer working.

It comes from redirecting your energy:
• Into better systems
• Smarter decisions
• New opportunities

Stop fixing what’s outdated. Start building what’s next.

People can handle pressure but chaos drains them.

As a leader, get structured

Just because they don’t want her to be right doesn’t mean she isn’t.

We’re past early adoption, the interesting bit now is who adapts and who boos from the crowd.

In leadership, most people and team issues can be solved by fixing the root cause.

Most businesses think hiring is about finding people.

It's not. It's about attracting the right ones — and actively deselecting the wrong ones.

There's a group of pubs whose entire Instagram isn't aimed at customers. It's aimed at staff. Because finding and keeping the right people is their biggest business problem. Their marketing works harder on recruitment than it does on footfall.

That's a leadership mindset shift most businesses never make.

When you get clear on who an A-player looks like for your business — high values fit, high productivity, 8 out of 10 and above — recruitment stops feeling like a lottery.

You stop settling for "close enough."
You start building a team that raises the bar rather than lowers it.
And the people who aren't performing? You're converting C's to B's, B's to A's — and making clear decisions about anyone who sits below that.

This is one of the frameworks we'll be covering at The Ultimate Leadership Masterclass on 8 May.
