Your content is gorgeous… and completely forgettable.

The branding is tight, the carousel flows, the copy is technically flawless. You’ve ticked every best-practice box. And yet it lands with all the emotional impact of a beautifully designed instruction manual.

Looking good isn’t the job, being correct isn’t the job - connecting is the job.

Connection means saying the thing your audience has been thinking but hasn’t articulated yet. It means choosing clarity over clever phrasing and perspective over polish - say what it does on the tin. It means having an actual point of view instead of hiding behind ‘value’ or the equivalent of a mini white paper. Because no one remembers content that simply behaved itself and looked pretty. They remember content that made them feel seen, challenged their thinking, or gave them language for a problem they couldn’t name.

Before you publish, don’t just ask yourself - is this correct, on brand and without typos?

Ask - would anyone care if this disappeared tomorrow? If the answer is no, it’s probably just well-dressed Instagram wallpaper.

Pretty is nice but memorable is better. You don’t want you perfect client to think your content is nice, your want them to think you are unignorable.

If want to learn how to write posts that feel sharper, braver, and impossible to ignore, that’s exactly what we do inside Shine Online Club. Shine Online Club is my content creation community for small business owners who want to consistently create content that connects and converts…message SHINE to find out more or head on over to the link in my bio.

Why do people love cheesy content? Because we’re all a little like pizza. The more cheese you add, the harder it is to look away.

The reason cheesy gags work isn’t because they’re brilliant. It’s because they’re familiar. In a feed full of polished opinions and carefully crafted thought leadership, a simple joke can feel surprisingly human.

As a content strategist for small business owners, I spend a lot of time thinking about originality. But sometimes audiences are often looking for something much simpler - recognition, warmth, and most importantly connection.

People don’t tend to share content because it’s technically impressive. They share it because it made them smile, nod, or think, ‘that’s so true.’

So it turns out, content isn’t judged by a Michelin panel, it’s. Mostly judged by humans scrolling on the toilet, and humans love cheese🧀

So tomorrow on National Cheese Day, I dare you to share your cheesiest content with me. Don’t be too mature for it, embrace the brie-liance. Are you in?

Let me tell you about my incredible member, Rachel Surtees and how she did it

Rachel originally worked mostly outdoors with clients, but her long-term goal was to move her business online so she could relocate and create more freedom in her life and work.

That transition wasn’t easy. Building an online presence as a therapist can feel slow, especially when so many people don’t engage, instead they lurk reading posts, following along, and reaching out months later without ever liking or commenting.

But Rachel understood that visibility is built through consistency. She kept showing up, creating content that reflected her values and expertise, and building trust over time.

Now? She’s fully booked, has a waiting list, and has successfully relocated to her dream location.

What I love most is that Rachel never tried to become someone else online. She simply learned how to communicate who she already was in a way that connected with the right people.

Her story is such a good reminder that growth online rarely happens overnight. It comes from showing up consistently long before the results appear. So if things feel quiet right now, keep going. People are paying attention more than you think.

And if you’d like support building an online presence that actually leads somewhere, message me about Shine Online Club — I currently have one rare space available.

Also - Rachel is amazing, if you’re not following her yet - do!

May round-up 🫶 My May flew by, I spoke at The Fold about LinkedIn (I turned my talk into a blog over on my website), there was an 8th birthday in my house, the launch of She Scales, twinning with Lucy Victoria Art at a mantra mugs workshop, a hiking retreat, a glorious weekend of camping, plenty of wild swimming and another fabulous silent book club.

If you’re a small business owner struggling with the ‘what do I post?’ quandary, why not try a monthly round-up?

A monthly round up is one of the easiest ways to stay consistent without constantly creating from scratch, you’re using content you’ve already created and showing your audience what they might have missed.

You are showing that you are active, in demand and sharing a little bit of that BTS gold-dust type content.

Open your phone, select a few May highlights, turn them into carousel or Reel, tag any relevant accounts and share away with a brief overview.

What did you get up to? Will you be turning it into easy peasy content?

What’s a realistic Instagram schedule for people with a small business, clients, kids, deadlines, and a life outside the app?

🌻Post around 3 times a week. One Reel and one carousel can go a long way, you do not need to be online 24/7 to grow.

🌻Share Stories when you genuinely have something to say, not because someone on the internet told you to post 17 times a day. I try and post at least once every 24 hours so I’m always present, but don’t overthink it.

🌻Spend about 90 minutes a week planning and batching your content. It should not be taking over your life or eating up entire weekends. If it’s taking you much longer than 90 mins - we need to talk!

🌻Reuse your best-performing ideas, too. Most people didn’t see it the first time anyway, I repeat - reuse your content

🌻Focus on consistency over intensity. A simple schedule you can actually maintain will always beat an idea strategy you quit after two weeks. My first question to anyone who joins Shine Online is - what can you realistically commit to posting, and we start there.

The answer isn’t always more content, they need better content and they need consistent content that connects with their audience.

You don’t have to become a full-time creator to build a strong online presence. If you’d a free content check-up then message me CHECKUP (or book via my website) Who wouldn’t want a free call with one of the most experienced content strategists out there?
