💡✨ Top Tip Thursday ✨💡

One of the simplest and most valuable questions you can ask is:

💭 “What works best for you?”

Where a person is able to communicate their preferences, take the time to listen 👂

Communication doesn’t always have to be verbal, What matters is finding the most appropriate way for that person to express their preferences🤝

People often know what helps them feel comfortable, safe and confident, and their views should be an important part of the assessment and decision-making process wherever possible 💗

Listening to the person helps support a more person-centred approach while balancing their preferences with safe and effective practice💫

💭 Every day is a learning day! 📚💡

One of the things we love about what we do is that we never stop learning 💗

Every assessment 🔍, conversation 💬, training session 📚 and collaboration 🤝 brings an opportunity to learn something new, see things from a different perspective or share knowledge with others

And sometimes, the best learning comes from the conversations you weren’t expecting! ✨

🌱 There’s always something new to discover, something to reflect on and something we can take forward into the work we do

Because learning isn’t just about knowing more, it’s about doing better with what we learn💡💕

🔍✨ MYTH BUSTING MONDAY ✨🔍

❌ MYTH: Two carers always make moving and handling safer

✅ FACT: More people doesn’t automatically mean safer 👥

Safe moving and handling depends on a number of important factors, including:

📋 Individual assessment
💬 Clear communication
🦽 The right equipment
🤝 A consistent, agreed approach
👤 Understanding the individual’s needs and abilities

⚠️ Simply increasing the number of carers involved doesn’t automatically reduce risk

Every situation should be individually assessed to determine the safest and most appropriate approach for everyone involved 💗

💡✨ Top Tip Thursday ✨💡

Encourage everyone to report near misses 🗣️

A near miss may not result in harm, but that doesn’t mean it should be overlooked

🔍 Near misses can provide valuable opportunities to identify potential risks, understand what could have gone wrong and make positive changes before an incident occurs

🤝 Creating an environment where people feel comfortable reporting and discussing near misses helps encourage open communication, shared learning and a more proactive approach to risk management

💭 Learning from what almost happened can be just as important as learning from what did

Small observations can lead to meaningful changes 🌱✨

This Friday, we’re celebrating the importance of trust, connection and understanding in the work we do 💗

🤝 Trust plays such an important part in positive care and support

It grows through listening, consistency, compassion and taking the time to understand what really matters to each individual

🌱 It’s often the small things, taking time to listen, showing up consistently, communicating openly and really getting to know the person - that help build meaningful relationships

And when people feel heard, valued and understood, it can make such a positive difference 💕✨

A lovely reminder this Feel Good Friday that the relationships we build along the way really do matter 🌟

💡 Top Tip Thursday 💡

Think about the environment, not just the person 💭

Before carrying out any moving and handling task, ask yourself:

Is there enough space? 📏

Is the floor clear? 🚫

Is the equipment positioned correctly? 🤔

Are there any trip hazards? ⚠️

🛡️ Sometimes the safest intervention starts before the task even begins

Taking a few moments to assess the environment can help reduce risk, improve confidence 💗 and support safer outcomes for everyone involved🤝

💡✨ Top Tip Thursday ✨💡

⚠️ Don’t wait for an incident to review risk ⚠️

Proactive risk management helps identify challenges before they become problems 🤔

Regular discussions 💬 assessments 📋 and staff feedback 🤝 can help ensure support remains safe, appropriate and responsive for both individuals and care teams
