🐾 FRIDAY FELINE FACT! 🐾

Did you know that cats may have domesticated themselves? 😹

Around 10,000 years ago, when humans began farming and storing grain, something rather clever happened…

Where there was grain, there were mice. 🐭
And where there were mice… there were cats! 🐈

Wild cats started hanging around human settlements because they had an easy supply of prey. Humans, in turn, were pretty happy to have these furry little pest controllers around.

And rather than humans deliberately domesticating cats in the way we did with dogs, scientists believe cats may have essentially thought:

“Hmm… free food, plenty of mice and somewhere warm to sleep. I’ll stay.” 😂

Fast-forward thousands of years and apparently their descendants are still making themselves at home… only now they expect premium food, multiple beds, a heated radiator and someone to open the door approximately 47 times a day. 🤣

Honestly, the cat may have been playing the long game all along. ❤️🐾

🐾Meet Fergus & Hazel. 😍

Two cousins, two VERY different personalities! 😹

I had the pleasure of looking after these two gorgeous Siamese cousins last week, and they certainly kept me entertained! 💚

First up is Fergus — an absolute sweetheart and the social butterfly of the family. 😻 He was very happy to see me, loved a fuss and seemed to think my visits were basically his personal cuddle service! 😂 He’s such a loving, confident and gregarious boy.

Then there’s Hazel… 🥰

Hazel is a little more “I’ll just watch you from over here, thanks”! 😂 She’s much shyer than Fergus and definitely prefers to take her time before deciding whether you’re worthy of her attention.

But that’s what I love about looking after cats — they all have their own little personalities. ❤️ Some greet you at the door demanding cuddles, while others make you work a little harder for that precious moment of trust.

It was lovely getting to know both of them and making sure they were happy, settled and well cared for while their human was away. 🐾

Why do cats chatter at birds? 🐱🐦

Ever noticed your cat sitting at the window, completely fascinated by a bird outside… and suddenly making that funny little “ek-ek-ek” chattering sound? 😹

But why do they do it?

Chattering is thought to be linked to a cat’s natural hunting instincts. When they spot a bird or other exciting prey, they can become incredibly focused and stimulated. The rapid jaw movements and little clicking noises may be a response to that excitement.

Some experts also think it could be linked to frustration — your cat can see the bird, but there’s a window firmly getting in the way! 🪟😂

And there’s another interesting theory: the chatter may mimic the sounds of prey, helping a cat get into full-on hunting mode.

Whatever the exact reason, it’s one of those wonderfully quirky things that makes cats… well, cats! ❤️

Loki 🐾

Meet Loki, a gorgeous grey and white boy I had the pleasure of looking after for a week recently. 🩶🤍

I didn't see Loki every day — he clearly likes to keep a little mystery about him! 😂 But when he did grace me with his presence, he certainly made up for it.

He was such a lovely, affectionate boy, always happy for some fuss and attention once he decided it was time to make an appearance. 🥰

Some cats like to be right there waiting at the door… and others prefer to make you work for the privilege! Loki definitely falls into the second category. 😻

It was lovely getting to know you, Loki. Until next time! 🐾

Why cats are happiest at home 🐾

When we go away, it’s easy to worry about our pets and wonder whether they’ll be okay without us.

But for many cats, staying at home is actually the best option. ❤️

Their own bed, their favourite sunny spot, their familiar smells and all those little routines they love. No travelling, no strange surroundings — just home, with someone popping in to make sure they’re fed, happy and getting plenty of fuss (if they’re that way inclined! 😸).

I love being able to give cats that little bit of company while their humans are away, and sending a photo or update so you can relax knowing they’re doing just fine.

Sometimes the simplest things make the biggest difference. 🐱❤️

Budge the Cathedral Cat 🐾

Meet Budge, the much-loved cathedral cat with a very important job to do — making himself at home and keeping an eye on everyone who comes through the doors! 🐱

There’s something rather special about a cat who chooses a beautiful old cathedral as his kingdom. With all the history, quiet corners and passing visitors, Budge has plenty of places to explore and plenty of people to charm. And, like most cats, he seems perfectly happy to let everyone believe that they are there to see the cathedral… when really, they’re there to see him! 😹

Cats have a wonderful way of making places feel warmer and more welcoming, and Budge is a perfect example. Whether he’s strolling around, settling down for a snooze or simply watching the world go by, he’s become a much-loved little part of cathedral life.

After all, every grand old building needs a resident cat — and Budge certainly seems to have taken his role very seriously. ❤️🐾
