This is someone who definitely doesn't procrastinate - or if she doesn't she is very good at looking like she doesn't!!
And apart from anything else, Ruth is very, very good at making bread!!
It all started 11 years ago, when given a baking course as a birthday gift from her children.
Wonder Woman! Aka known as Ruth Redgate from Hunnypot Cottage Bakery talked to us today about the range of her work and commitment to our local community.
From discovering the joy of making loaves on a course, Ruth now runs her own successful bakery business and much more.
The award winning Hunnypot Cottage Bakery can be seen at many of our local markets where Ruth loves talking to her customers. Her breads are tasty, varied, vegan and what real bread should be. Working out of her home bakery, Ruth can offer subscription boxes and courses.
She is able to cater for weddings and events and since being an advocate for vegan choices, will run plant based courses for those wishing to extend their knowledge and range of vegan options.
Community is at the heart of Ruth’s business and philosophy of life. She runs Mercia Farmers Market, which is the click and collect that does not damage the environment. Using local suppliers, you choose what you want and it is brought to a central location. Local, sustainable, and with clear provenance; the food choice supports local producers and we get the freshest of goods.
As an avid volunteer Ruth supports a local scout group and each week will also find her up at the crack of dawn supporting the homeless in Burton. Each year, now joined by Corinne O’Donnell, she will sleep out in a local graveyard to raise awareness for the YMCA.
Lichfield Chamber of Commerce is under the chairmanship of Ruth; her tenure has seen numbers grow and events supported bringing much needed business into the city.
In her ‘spare’ time, Ruth can be found as a regular member of the writers club and speakers group. When she is not cold water swimming that is! Alongside Sally Wagstaff, the pair have chosen to swim in 55 different locations this year.
So how does Ruth fit it all in? Well have a one to one and find out. Or pop along to the next market and taste some of her bread. I recommend the rosemary!
