For the first time in fifty years, the interiors of Billy Haines's most personal residence come to market.⁠

Joan Crawford lit the fuse. 🎬 Before Billy Haines became a defining voice of Hollywood Regency, he was one of its brightest stars. His close friend and co-star gave him his first design commission, hiring him to redecorate her Brentwood home. Haines returned to refine that house for twenty-five years, marking the start of his second act as a designer.⁠

This July 22 in Los Angeles, Bonhams presents Modern Design | Art | Featuring 'Lorna Lane': The Legacy of Billy Haines, a rare collection from his final residence. For nearly three decades, 601 Lorna Lane was his most personal project, hand-painted French wallpaper, floor-to-ceiling windows, checkered floors, and furniture built for the space that shaped mid-century Los Angeles design.⁠
⁠
Now, after fifty years in private hands, 39 preserved pieces, many designed by Haines himself, come to market for the first time, including onyx-topped coffee tables, tufted sofas, bronze floor lamps, and a brass-inlaid dining table with hidden buttons to summon staff.⁠
