Taxidermy Ermine Stoat by W. Shelbrooke, 1927
Quality mounted Ermine Stoat by W. C. Shelbrooke of 65 Friar's Street, Bridgnorth, Shropshire. This taxidermist along with George Quatremain of Stratford upon Avon, were the two notable apprentices to Peter Spicer, who went onto run their own successful businesses and whose similarity to Spicer can be seen here. Posed with one paw raised and head turned, cased in Shelbrooke's distinctive manner incorporatinga watercolour painted backdrop and colourful natural groundwork. Housed in a smal, light-oak case, glazed and beaded to three sides, ideal for bookshelf display but also with a brass hanger for wall mounting. The reverse is faintly signed in pencil Shelbrooke, Bridgnorth, May 1927.
