This Spring we were asked to research links between climate change and human mobility in the Middle East.

🌍 Concerns about climate change and human mobility are evident, but we must consider other crucial factors such as conflict, governance issues, and resource management.

🚨 Despite the alarming situation and the urgent need for action, climate adaptation doesn’t appear to be a priority for many governments. The question remains: how long can we sustain this, and when will we succumb to the weight of our own indifference?

What better way to announce that Verengai Mabika has joined Expectation State to lead our digital portfolio than to have AI come up with the wording! We're exceptionally excited to have him on board, joining us from Zimbabwe.

So, in the words of Artficial Intelligence...

Expectation State is excited to announce Verengai Mabika as our new Partner, Digital. Verengai brings over 16 years of experience at the forefront of digital policy and innovation, making him a perfect fit to lead our digital strategy.

Verengai's background is a powerhouse of expertise. Previously, he served as the Senior Policy Advisor for Africa at the Internet Society. In this role, he tackled critical issues like internet infrastructure, regulations, and privacy, all while fostering strong relationships with governments and regional organizations across Africa. He's also a seasoned leader, having guided cross-functional teams and delivered data-driven solutions that shaped policy and built public trust in internet technology.

His passion extends beyond policy. As the Founder & Director of the Development Reality Institute (DRI Africa), he championed social innovation programs focused on climate change and sustainability. He even co-founded Golix, a company exploring the potential of blockchain technology. This blend of policy acumen and entrepreneurial spirit makes him uniquely qualified to navigate the ever-evolving digital landscape. Verengai's impressive credentials don't stop there. He holds a Master's degree specializing in Internet Governance, and has actively pursued continuous learning through advanced certificates in Artificial Intelligence, 5G, IoT and International project management.

He's also a recognized innovator, having been featured on Quartz's list of Top African Innovators and receiving prestigious awards like the Ashoka Fellowship and the Echoing Green Fellowship.

It was fantastic for us to visit SOAS University of London this week to give a guest lecture to Risk & Policy Analysis students on the realities of monitoring and evaluation in today's world. With thanks to Ziya Meral for the invitation.

Raymond Asfour talked through a range of subjects, from the realities of evaluating increasingly political aid to the effect colonialism still has on international development.

As we have grown it has become clear that evaluation belongs at the heart of Expectation State. We are delighted to now welcome Augustus Emenogu as a Partner, leading our evaluation portfolio.

Augustus has led Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) functions in over 40 countries across a diverse range of technical areas, including private-sector development, democracy and governance, education, internet freedom, humanitarian assistance, emergency response, post-conflict stabilization, food security and resilience, disability inclusion, reproductive health, protection, and gender-based violence.

From his base in Ghana, Augustus has designed and led monitoring services and conducted evaluation studies globally for a host of donors, including the World Bank, USAID LAB/OI, US State Department, GIZ, German Cooperation, USAID BHA, USDOL, FCDO, EU, European Union Commission (EUC), ECHO, NORAD, SDC, SIDA, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Government of Indonesia, Government of Japan, and Government of Nigeria, Commonwealth Secretariat, UNDP, UN Women, Kimberly Clark Corporation, German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Qatar Foundation, and the International Association for Blindness Prevention (IABP).

Hanningtone joins us with exceptional experience, having worked in 33 countries across East Africa and the wider continent, in 22 diverse sectors. With ongoing initiatives in Kenya and Uganda, we’re really looking forward to engaging in the issues that matter most to the region.

We’re thrilled to lay down roots in Zambia, with andrew kambobe joining us as an Expectation State Partner and Country Director for Zambia.

A stable and maturing democracy well known for peaceful transfers of power throughout its history, Zambia has great economic potential. Andrew joins us to grow our portfolio in Zambia and Southern Africa more widely, bringing extensive experience of private sector development and inclusive business, as well as capital raising in Southern Africa.
