What do young Africans think about the world’s biggest powers?
The 2026 African Youth Survey finds that 95% of respondents aged 18–24 view China’s influence in Africa positively, compared with 85% for the United States. Positive views of Russia have also climbed to 83%, up from 68% two years ago.
Yet when asked which country has the most influence in Africa, the United States came first at 81%, ahead of China.
The findings have been featured in The Times, alongside perspectives on what young Africans want from the continent’s international partners.
