Honouring Our Friends’ Boundaries

"Friendships are vital, but like all relationships, they require care and understanding. Today, let's reflect on how we show up for our friends, especially when it comes to boundaries."

As you reflect on your own responses to friends’ boundaries, consider these questions:

1. How do I typically react when my friends set boundaries or say no?

2. What can I do to ensure I’m respecting my friends' needs without taking it personally?

3. How can I be an energy-giving friend?

Beyond Retail Therapy

Why Women Should Invest in Personal Growth

We've all felt stuck in a rut at some point so Picture this:

You've given 15 years to a job, and for the last 6, you've been feeling less than thrilled. That nagging question keeps popping up: "Is this all there is?"

Now, imagine investing in yourself - just £985 for some one-on-one sessions with someone with someone you're not too sure about but who's willing to be there, to help you rediscover your spark and turn things around. When you break it down, that's less than £85 a month or £3 a day - less than your daily latte habit!

Let's be real for a moment, ladies. We all know that the price tag isn't the real issue here. It's about the kind of support we're giving ourselves.

Think about it:

🦋 Those gorgeous designer shoes you've been eyeing? They're £150 and won't help you navigate office politics or boost your confidence in meetings.

🦋 That gym membership you signed up for but barely use? It's costing you £40 a month but isn't addressing the stress that's weighing you down.

🦋 How about that high-end makeup palette, hair or nails you love so much? It's £60+ but they can't give you advice on how to shine in your career, gain your self respect or help you feel confident and content with your life.

In those 6 years, how many girls' nights out have you had? Each one probably cost around £50 or more. They're fun, but did they give you a chance to really open up about your career worries or that nagging feeling that you're capable of so much more?

And let's talk about retail therapy. We've all been there - buying that stunning new outfit that makes us look like a million bucks on the outside. But does it fill that growing void inside? Does it give you the tools to stand up in that boardroom and own your ideas?

Sure, that new lipstick or designer handbag might give us a quick confidence boost, but it's like putting a bandage on a broken arm. Retail therapy is the ultimate short-term fix - it feels great in the moment, but before you know it, you're right back where you started, only with a lighter bank account and a fuller closet. And let's face it, it adds up fast! A little splurge here, a treat there, and suddenly you've spent hundreds, maybe even thousands, on stuff that looks pretty but doesn't actually solve your problems.

Instead of another shopping spree, imagine investing that money in something that will truly change your life - like guidance that helps you deal with difficult colleagues or managers, boost your workplace confidence, and create a life you feel valued and have job satisfaction. So that everyday, you wake up with that sense of happiness rather than dread. Now that's what I call a smart investment!

Ladies, it's time we invest in what really matters - you! Your dreams, your potential, your happiness. Imagine what you could achieve with someone in your corner, cheering you on and giving you the strategies to make real, lasting changes in your life and career.

You're worth so much more than a new pair of shoes or a night out. You're worth investing in your future, your growth, and your happiness. So, what do you say? Are you ready to take that step towards the life and career you've always dreamed of?

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞

I found myself walking into the office each morning with a heavy heart, dreading the tension that seemed to seep through every corner. Despite loving my job and feeling passionate about my work, the strained relationships with some of my colleagues cast a shadow over my enthusiasm. The once vibrant workplace now felt suffocated by unspoken frustrations and bottlenecks in communication.

It became clear to me that something needed to change. I couldn't continue tiptoeing around these issues, letting them fester and grow like weeds in an untended garden. So, I made a commitment to myself: I will initiate a positive conversation with a challenging colleague each week. This was not just about improving our working dynamic but also about nurturing understanding and empathy in our interactions.

With determination and open-heartedness, I embarked on this journey towards healing the rifts that had been weighing us down for far too long. By making an effort to reach out, listen, and communicate openly, step by step, I hoped to sow seeds of positivity that would eventually bloom into stronger connections

Sarah had been a dedicated primary school teacher for over a decade. She loved her job and took immense pride in shaping young minds, but her passion often came at the expense of her personal life. Sarah would frequently stay late at school, marking papers, preparing lessons, or attending staff meetings. She would take work home, spending her evenings and weekends buried in tasks.

One night, as she was hunched over her laptop at the dining table, her daughter, Emma, came up to her with tears in her eyes. "Mummy, why do you love your work more than me?" she asked. That question hit Sarah like a tonne of bricks. She realised that her relentless dedication to her career was causing her to neglect the most important people in her life – her family.

With the help of her life coach, Sarah began the challenging journey to reclaim her work-life balance. It wasn't easy, as old habits die hard. She started by setting firmer boundaries, refusing to take work home unless absolutely necessary. Sarah also became more efficient during her time at school, better managing her schedule and prioritising tasks.

However, the biggest hurdle was changing her mindset. Sarah had to let go of the notion that she had to be a 'perfect' teacher, sacrificing everything for her job. Her coach helped her reframe her perspective, reminding her that being present for her family was just as important as her work.

Progress was slow, and setbacks were frequent. Sarah even made the difficult decision to change schools, hoping a new environment would be more conducive to a healthier balance. While things are still a work in progress, Sarah has noticed positive changes. She's leaving work at more reasonable hours and committing to regular family dinners and quality time with her husband and daughter. She's also prioritising self-care activities like yoga and reading for pleasure.

The transformation hasn't been easy, and there are still days when Sarah struggles to maintain balance. But with the ongoing support of her coach and a renewed commitment to her personal life, Sarah is happier and more fulfilled. She's learning that being a great teacher doesn't mean sacrificing everything else – it's about finding harmony between her career and her personal passions and relationships, one step at a time.

My first 💙 was a used Ford Es**rt I bought in college. As a broke student, I just needed something affordable that ran well - didn't matter if it was fancy!

After 10 years of TLC (changing oil, filters, you name it!), repairs started piling up 💸 So I treated myself to a brand new Ford Focus in my fav metallic blue! Having grown up around Fords (thanks to my dad), I was loyal to the brand and loved that new car smell 😁

Flash forward 18 years and...you guessed it, more repairs 🛠️ This time, I decided to ditch car ownership altogether and go car-free in London! 🚶‍♀️🚌
Don't get me wrong, public transit has its moments (noisy passengers, anyone?!) and I miss that cosy car bubble. But no more traffic jams, flat tires or parking nightmares! 🙌

Letting go of my beloved Fords was bittersweet, but just like careers, everything is a chapter. Maybe your next job will blow the old one out of the water...or maybe it'll just be different.

The key? Getting clear on your "why" for making a change:
   • What's the cost of staying put? Insomnia, hair loss, losing or gaining weight, constant headaches, fatigue.

Sometimes what’s needed is a total career 180 or it could be that you need to look at your values and find a job that just fits you better?

Learn to have the courage to transition when your current situation no longer serves you. If you need support exploring next steps, I offer free calls to uncover what's possible! Because growth always requires transition...are you ready?

15/05/2024

What's one thing you wish you could change about your current situation, and what's holding you back?

That feeling when you're craving change but feel stuck or stalled-out - it can be so frustrating, right? There's this vision for how you want your life to look and feel, but those obstacles just seem insurmountable some days. Whether it's transitioning careers, strengthening a relationship, or simply cultivating more balance, we all have areas where we yearn to level-up.

So let's get real for a moment: What's one thing you desperately wish was different about your current circumstances? Don't censor yourself - give voice to that inner restlessness and hunger for something more. Once you can name it, you're one step closer to realising it.

Now here's the cool part: Those roadblocks that loom so large? They're not dead-ends, but actually powerful opportunities for growth and transformation if you approach them with the right mindset. Because overcoming challenges and facing down our fears is how we stretch ourselves. It's how we re-write the narratives holding us back and tap into those reserves of courage we didn't even know we had.

So rather than letting those obstacles gaslight you into complacency, could you commit to taking just one small, actionable step today towards that change you crave? It can be something as simple as researching job openings, scheduling a workout, or downloading a helpful app. Any little act of defiant self-nurturing in the face of those doubts and excuses is a win.

Because you're deserving of a life that feels authentic and purposeful. You're deserving of shedding what's keeping you small and shining in your fullest expression. And bit-by-bit, those small steps start sn*******ng into radical transformation.

Have compassion for how heavy those metaphorical backpacks of fears, limiting beliefs, and conditioning can feel as you're striving for change. But also get angry - righteous, lighted-up angry - at anything that keeps you from living as your highest self. Let that fire under your feet be the fuel propelling you forward, no matter how gradual the journey.

You've got this. Every day's an opportunity to begin anew and realign with the woman you're aching to become. One courageous choice at a time.

I can't wait to host the women's coffee meetup on 28 May because it's a beautiful opportunity to bring together a community of strong, inspiring women who uplift and support each other in pursuit of their dreams.

I’m looking forward to us being able to help each other by providing suggestions and ideas for everyone’s business.

The other thing that makes me happy is that we are hosting it at a Moonshot Coffee, which offers a unique children's space/meeting area, is truly special and adds an extra touch of warmth to our gathering.

This is all about being able to create a nurturing, supportive environment, where women can find and connect with business friends that can help each other grow and thrive!

A one word journal uses a single daily word to encapsulate essence and emotion.

Some key things about one word journals:

They encourage brevity and mindfulness - the writer must think carefully about choosing just the right word to encapsulate the day. This process can help people be more intentional.

The single words are often like shorthand emotional notes or a one-word summary of a key event. For example, someone might write "happy" on a good day or "tired" after a long day at work.

Looking back on the collection of words can provide a snapshot of the different experiences and emotions felt over time. It distils the journal down to its essence.

The single word entries are quick and easy to do each day, making it a convenient journaling habit to maintain.

It can be interesting to look back on patterns in the words over time or to flip through and notice shifts in tone or focus.

The entries don't necessarily need to make logical sense; it's more about capturing a subjective impression or moment in time.

Stressed

However, you can also use a key question to help you explore your one word and your feelings.

Question: What feelings does this word bring up for me, and why?

Dear journal,

Seeing the word "stressed" in my one word journal today makes me realise just how overwhelmed I'm feeling lately. As a young woman in my 20s juggling work, relationships, and personal goals, stress has become an unwelcome yet familiar friend.

This word evokes feelings of anxiety, frustration, and being emotionally drained. I've just started a new job that's demanding a lot from me. I'm trying to learn the ropes while also meeting tight deadlines. My to-do list keeps growing, and it's left me feeling buried. No matter how much I try to keep up, I end up staying late and still feeling behind. The pressure to perform and prove myself is intense.

In my personal life, I've been facing difficulties with my partner that leave me tense and preoccupied. We've been arguing more, struggling to communicate. My mind swirls with uncertainty about the relationship. All this has led to many sleepless nights and a constant pit in my stomach.

I know I put a lot of pressure on myself, and I don't ask for help often enough. I've taken on too many responsibilities without good boundaries. It's left me exhausted and emotionally tapped out.

Choosing "stressed" today reminds me that I need to take better care of myself. I can't keep operating in crisis mode or my health and relationships will suffer. This feeling is a sign that I need to prioritise self-care, reach out for support, and make changes so I can find more calm and balance. Though the pressures won't disappear overnight, reflecting on this gives me determination to start carving out ways to reduce stress and anxiety.

I deserve peace.

Last November, I hosted a Journalling Together group session where a participant expressed their difficulty with journalling. I reassured them that there is no correct method for journalling and suggested a simple approach, such as keeping a one-word journal.

My one word journal example today is Cold.

However, the key about journalling for me is the reflection. You only need to ask yourself one question to reflect, so here are two example questions I use to reflect when I'm journalling.

1. How did my chosen word come up in my day today?

I chose this word because in the UK it has begun to get extremely cold and I think they are predicting snow on Wednesday. I’m not looking forward to the snow, but I work from home now so maybe it doesn’t matter as much any more.

Or

2. What feelings does this word bring up for me, and why?

If I think about the cold just on it’s own, then I feel miserable, but when I compare it to being too hot, being cold makes me feel much happier. As long as I am dressed appropriately and wearing layers, can turn the heating up; sit under a duvet and watch TV; use an electric blanket; have lots of hot drinks, I can still work, feel cosy and be productive.

But when it’s too hot I always feel as if I can’t cool down; I get heat rash; the AC stuffs up my nasals and there’s never anywhere to cool down. So in reality, I really like the cold when it's a normal working week, except when I get a cold but I unfortunately, I'll have to reserve really hot weather for holidays.

In this example I haven't gone deep into feelings and that's fine. It's about getting started and finding your own rhythm.

Take the first step towards a more mindful and intentional life by embracing the simplicity of one-word journaling as a daily practice.

03/01/2024

As we start 2024, many of us feel the pull to make New Year's resolutions - goals to exercise more, eat healthier, etc. But what if instead we set meaningful intentions?

An intention focuses on our inner growth and character, not just external actions. So rather than resolving to go to the gym 5 days a week, what if we intend to build courage?

Courage is a quiet confidence from within. It's the willingness to be vulnerable, take risks, and face fears. Cultivating courage leads to a more authentic, fulfilled life.

For young working women, courage helps you speak up at meetings, ask for promotions, leave unhealthy jobs or relationships, and more fully step into your potential. It allows you to tune out self-doubt and take the kinds of chances that lead to growth.

So let's set the intention in 2024 to face challenges head-on. To lean into discomfort and honour your true voices. Your greatest breakthroughs lie just outside your comfort zones.

This year, may we all build the courage to be bold, take risks, and manifest the lives we truly desire. The new year offers a blank canvas - let's paint one filled with courage, purpose and meaningful change.
