Since the creation of Focus on the Balance, the range of clients and the different types of industry that have enlisted our services has been wonderfully broad.

There is a topical employment update change coming in on the 26th October in the UK. The Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act 2023 will come into force for England, Scotland and Wales. The amendment signals a change for employers, who will have a specified duty placed on them to take measures to prevent the sexual harassment of their employees.
The new law will place a new duty on employers to take ‘reasonable steps’ to prevent sexual harassment. Tribunals will have the power to increase compensation by up to 25% if they find an employer has breached this duty.
The new preventative duty requires employers to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment by any perpetrator and that includes third parties such as customers, clients and members of the public.
By way of reminder, Harassment covers unwanted conduct related to a protected characteristic which has the purpose or effect of violating a person's dignity or creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for them. Sexual harassment is unwanted conduct of a sexual nature that has that effect.
There are a number of ways of ensuring your Leaders and staff are fully aware of this important change and this includes;
- Working culture - is supportive, sets the right tone, behaves correctly and provides the opportunity for open channels of communication.
- Ensuring the right policies and processes are in place and training and development is offered.
