The world, flipped.

Take away the trees at the edges and you’d struggle to say which way is up. Somewhere in there, a heron’s working the far bank, and a couple of walkers are doing normal Sunday park things, all of it doubled, upside down, dead still on the water.

Cooler days, the lake stops fidgeting long enough to hold a whole world underneath it.

Beautiful old architecture, holding quietly. A stone finial, a weathered cupola.

The clock looks as though it’s stopped ticking, hands held still, almost to remind us of a time when its importance sounded across the estate.

Now hidden, unless you stop and happen to look upwards. ā˜ļø

The Kyoto Gardens, London; this was a gift from the city of Kyoto to London.

A miniature landscape of cascading water and moss-covered stone, hidden in the middle of West London.

Some of the most extraordinary things are the ones nobody notices. 🌿

Not posed. Not performed. Just two women, a London park, and something that felt more true than a photograph.

Have you seen more herons than usual lately?

I’ve had five or six sightings across three different spots in the last fortnight. That’s more than I’d normally see in a season.

Where have you spotted one? Drop your location below, curious how far this goes. šŸ¤

Strength doesn’t always look green.

This one’s carrying a heatwave the way oaks do, leaves curling early, ground gone to straw beneath it. It looks tired if you’re only glancing. Look properly and the trunk hasn’t moved an inch. Bark like this has outlasted worse summers than this one.

Some things don’t need to look thriving to be strong. They just need to still be standing.
