Many careers begin with curiosity.

In our recent conversation with Adora Nwodo, she spoke about the role mentorship, learning, and access played in shaping her career journey.

NexaScale is a community-driven organisation focused on making technology and AI education practical, accessible, and career-focused. Through programmes, mentorship, and hands-on learning experiences, they help aspiring technologists build meaningful careers.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗜 𝗙𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽
A six-week, fully virtual fellowship designed for people who want to move beyond using AI tools and start building with them. Fellows learn through live sessions, practical labs, mentorship, industry speakers, and a capstone project. The programme is completely free.

Over six weeks, participants will explore:
• Modern AI systems and prompt engineering
• AI productivity and AI-augmented engineering
• AI agents and workflow orchestration
• LLMOps and production AI systems
• A hands-on capstone project solving a real-world problem

By the end of the fellowship, fellows will have:
✅ Practical AI skills
✅ A portfolio project
✅ Guidance from experienced practitioners
✅ A stronger professional network
✅ Greater confidence applying AI in real-world settings

Meet Cathie, Cybersecurity and AI Specialist at Queen Mary University of London.

Cathie's journey into cybersecurity started in academia, researching and teaching English Literature before pivoting to the technology sector.

Today, she works across cybersecurity, AI policy, cloud security, and security engineering, combining organisational risk management with hands-on technical expertise.

One of the things that stands out in Cathie's story is her commitment to continuous learning.

Over the years, she has retrained in cloud, DevOps, and software development, building skills in Python, AWS, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and more.

When asked what advice Cathie would give to women looking to transition into cloud, security engineering, or AI, her answer was clear:
➡️ Keep learning consistently
➡️ Build hands-on projects
➡️ Connect with practitioners and communities

As she explains:
“𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘵.”

Her perspective on leadership is equally thoughtful. For Cathie, good leadership in cybersecurity and AI means balancing innovation, accountability, security, and care for people. She also believes that psychological safety and diverse perspectives lead to better decisions and stronger teams.

Outside of her day-to-day role, she is also deeply involved in mentoring and supporting women in technology.

Cathie says:
“𝘔𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘶𝘱 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘰 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘢𝘭𝘭.”

It's why she encourages every woman entering the industry to seek guidance, build relationships, and never try to grow entirely on their own.

A lot of professionals tell us:
"𝘐 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭. 𝘔𝘺 𝘫𝘰𝘣 𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦."

But "𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦" isn't always the same as 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴.

If you've been feeling restless at work lately, ask yourself:
