The Liberation Initiatives

The Liberation Initiatives We’re a consultancy that connects organisations with under-represented children, adults and communities through bespoke initiatives. We are all about Action.

We will only work with organisations that are serious about change. Who want to re-balance the social and economical disadvantages faced by the black community and marginalised people. Our purpose is to help. We want to work with organisations who accept they could do better and want to do better. We review current key business strategies around diversity and provide expert advice on how to improve or develop new ones.

How many of the people shaping the world we live in today do we actually know by name?

Black women have been behind some of the most important ideas, technologies, and cultural shifts, often without the recognition they deserve.

Not just in history.
Right now.

This is about more than celebrating creativity.
It’s about giving credit where it’s long overdue.

Coachella didn’t just “become diverse” this year.

The culture has always been global.
The talent has always been there.

But the platform?
That’s taken a little longer to catch up.

Karol G becoming the first Latina headliner in 2026 isn’t just a win, it’s a reminder of how late it is.

Because this isn’t new.
It’s just finally being seen.

So yes, it’s progress.
But it also raises a bigger question

who decides when culture becomes “mainstream”…
and why did it take this long?

London is changing.
But not everyone gets to stay.

Beyond Brix & Mortar tells the story of Brixton, a community built on culture, resilience, and history now facing erasure through development.

Since the 1980s, property prices here have risen by over 1700%.
Thousands of Black residents have been pushed out.
And what’s called “regeneration”… doesn’t always include the people who made the place what it is.

But this isn’t just about Brixton.
From Peckham to Elephant and Castle, this is happening across London.
Communities are being reshaped, priced out, and replaced.

This film matters because it documents what’s being lost before it disappears completely.

The team behind Beyond Brix & Mortar are currently raising funds to complete the film, including archive footage, final edit, and voiceover. We would love any support anyone can offer to bring the voices and stories of many to life for all to see and hear!

Cuba is currently facing one of its most serious crises in decades.

Fuel shortages have caused the country’s electricity grid to collapse multiple times this month, leaving millions without power.
Hospitals are relying on generators, schools have closed, and food shortages are worsening due to refrigeration failures.
The crisis has sparked rare public protests, highlighting growing frustration among citizens.

Behind geopolitical tensions are millions of people navigating daily life without reliable electricity or basic supplies.

Not all stereotypes are harmless.

Research shows that racist jokes and “banter” remain one of the most common forms of discrimination experienced by ethnic minority employees in the UK.

What might seem like humour to some can reinforce stereotypes, create hostile environments and discourage people from speaking up.

Challenging harmful assumptions isn’t about policing humour, it’s about building workplaces where everyone feels respected.

80% of the UK’s music revenue comes from Black music.

Let that sink in.

A new report found £24.5 billion of the £30 billion generated by UK recorded music over the past 30 years came from genres rooted in Black culture.

Grime.
Garage.
Jazz.
Drum & bass.
Afrobeats.
Soul.
Hip-hop.
The sound of British music is built on Black culture.

Yet only 22% of senior roles in the music industry are held by people from Black or minority backgrounds.
The culture drives the industry.

Now the leadership needs to reflect it.

A moment to reflect on how racial bias continues to show up in real, measurable ways across health, work, housing, and government.

These aren’t abstract ideas they’re lived experiences backed by data.

Let’s commit to progress, not just awareness.

From plans to scrap the Equality Act to shifting priorities around “traditional values”, the potential impact is real and controversial.

Some say it’s about protecting women.
Others say it risks undoing decades of progress.
