UK Government to Ban Impact Wrenches on Scaffolding Sites 🚨
In a surprise announcement this morning, the UK Government has revealed plans to ban the use of imact wrenches by scaffolders nationwide, citing “excessive noise pollution and aggressive bolt-tightening.”
The proposed legislation—rumoured to be titled the “Manual Tightening and Traditional Methods Act 2026”—would require all scaffolders to revert to spanners and hand tools only, with immediate effect.
A government spokesperson stated:
“We believe the unmistakable ‘BRRRRRR’ of impact wrenches has become a public nuisance. Additionally, there are concerns that bolts are being tightened… too efficiently.”
🔧 What This Means for Scaffolders
All impact wrenches to be handed in at designated “Tool Amnesty Points”
Introduction of mandatory wrist-strength assessments
New training courses titled “Back to Basics: The Art of the Spanner”
Suggested daily warm-up exercises to prevent “manual tightening fatigue”
🏗️ Industry Reaction
The scaffolding industry has responded with confusion and disbelief.
One scaffolder commented:
“Next they’ll be banning spirit levels and telling us to eyeball it.”
Another added:
“We’ve just got used to torque testing properly, now they want us back in the Stone Age.”
We have asked the NASC for comment, but we are still awaiting their response to this latest news.
📢 Public Response
Members of the public have reportedly welcomed the quieter mornings, with one resident saying:
“It’s the first time I’ve opened the window without hearing a machine gun going off at 7am.”
We have asked the NASC for comment but we are still awaiting their response to this latest news.
Well done to those who guessed it was an April's fool prank.
To those who fell for it don't worry everyone cannot be perfect all of the time.
We hope this made you laugh and brought a smile to your face. 😁
