A bit more about our one minute long video 'We are Meanwhile'! Meanwhile Space

We are Meanwhile involves two companies: Unlimited Meanwhile Ltd and Meanwhile Space CIC. Our combined objective is to utilise empty spaces to tackle degradation, bringing them into use, creating opportunities for people and making things happen which revitalise an area.

With this in mind, our video director, Albert Sala Pares , and his team took a pure and simple concept like a space; building the whole set to explain what we do.

The report does little to shake the stereotype of the Nordic utopia. Oslo was tipped as the easiest place to get a job, Aalborg in Denmark best for household financial security, and Oulu in Finland for affordable, quality housing. Dutch cities frequently scored highest for satisfaction levels, with Groningen the happiest in Europe with schools, healthcare and public space.

Rothermere House (49-51 Cambridge Road, Hastings) is a Meanwhile Space CIC
project to renovate and bring an underused building back into use as live / work / club space.

Rothermere House will be transformed into a vibrant live-work community that reflects local aspirations, serves local need, attracts visitors, and catalyses local economic growth. This building has been identified as a key site for the White Rock area of Hastings due to its position next to the historic Hastings Observer building which is vacant. Re-animating Rothermere House is a key step in unlocking the Observer building as an asset for the local area.

Rock House (49-51 Cambridge Road, Hastings) is a project to renovate and bring an underused building back into use as live / work / community action space.

The first building of its kind with capped rents to provide an affordable space in the town centre for the long term, Rock House helps its tenants to thrive without threat of displacement by the upsurge of rents as the area experiences the effects of gentrification.

A converted 1960s office block that once housed the journalists and typists for the Hastings and St Leonards Observer newspaper, the nine-storey building has great original features including hollow-pot ‘moon landing’ ceilings, and wonderful views out to sea and across Hastings.
