WOMEN SUPP❤️RT WOMEN

Today, 8 March 2021, is International Women's Day (IWD), which has occurred for well over a century with the first gathering held in the early 1990s.

It is an annual event and celebrated across the globe to:

📌 celebrate women's achievements
📌 raise awareness about women's equality
📌 lobby for accelerated gender parity
📌 fundraise for female focussed charities

The theme this year is 'Choose to Challenge'. A challenged world is an alert world and from challenge comes change.

Although women have come a long way - female Prime Ministers, scientists, astronauts, board members of companies, etc., there is still a long way to go. So as the website says:

📌 Make every day International Women's Day.
📌 Do your bit to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.

** ARE YOU A GOOD NETWORKER? **

Networking has become a core business development tool. The value of personal connections, introductions and recommendations cannot be underestimated. Whether in person, using technology platforms or phone.

But for some it's a nightmare! I learnt to network well whilst living and working in the USA. But I have had experiences where I have walked into an event and people who you converse with are more interested in thrusting a business card into your hand and telling you how wonderful they are. However, we should not be put off by this type of behaviour and focus on those who are genuinely interested in having a two-way productive conversation.

So how do you optimise this activity?

- Approach networking as a genuine exchange rather than 'what's in it for me'.
- This approach leads to the most interesting conversation and opportunities.
- Don't be shy to approach people
- Show interest in their conversation and listen.
- The best networkers are open, engaging, interested and helpful people - join them!

** HOW WAS YOUR MONDAY? **

Was your Monday a good day or a moan day?

It is probably not the first time such a suggestion has been made, but a survey has found that Monday is officially the most miserable day of the week.

Apparently, more than half of us will spend the day complaining, particularly in the morning. One in three people said they hated Monday more than any other day in the week.

Some of the most common reasons included dreading the working week ahead, over-indulging at the weekend, having a mountain of e-mails to catch up on, feeling tired and taking a while to get back into 'work-mode'. Other work related complaints included contending with IT issues, getting stuck in traffic, public transport delays and the feeling you are trying to keep everyone happy.

There appears to be a number of reasons that can affect our mood. In order to do something about it we need to know what the triggers are? So, the next time you feel like a good moan think about what triggered it off and what you might do differently in the situation. Everyone's triggers will be different.

It's World Book Day today and this years' theme is to 'share a million stories'. World Book Day is a registered charity on a mission to give every child and young person a book of their own. It's also a celebration of authors, illustrators, books, and most importantly, it's a celebration of reading. World Book Day is held annually in the UK and Ireland on the first Thursday in March and was first created in 1995 by UNESCO as World Book and Copyright day.

I love books and reading, whether in hard copy or on my kindle. I am fully in favour of any initiative aimed at turning kids on to reading. With 800 libraries having closed down since 2010, and attention spans dwindling at an alarming rate, books need all the help they can get in this multimedia age.

But lets not lose sight of the day by over commercialisation of the event with parents frantically trying to make or buy costumes for their children to wear to school. I don't want to stop the fun element of the day but also consider investing in a book or two, which is what the day is all about.
