CLPM's Charlie Laing is running the London Marathon on 27th April for charity, and is aiming to break records!

The last (and only) time he ran a marathon was in 2003. Over 20 years later he plans to lace up his trainers again to take on this epic event.

Charlie is running for the Paviors who are a Livery Company. These were the original trade guilds of the City. The Worshipful Company of Paviors is one of the oldest and most prestigious of construction-related Livery companies (750 years old next year!). They are a community of like-minded professionals and senior construction leaders from construction companies, aggregate industries, building trades and supporting professions, committed to industry excellence, charity and supporting the City and the Livery movement.

Charlie is hoping to raise £10,000 to support these incredible charities:
🔶 London Construction Academy - Helping young people who are out of work and education gain the skills they need for a career in construction.

🔶Construction Youth Trust - Supporting young people, particularly those who face significant social or economic barriers, to build better futures by giving them hands on experience in construction.

🔶Sand Dams Worldwide - having visited a sand dam project with my family, I've seen first hand the life chaging impact of providing year-round access to clean water for local communities. All funds raised will help to build a new sand dam in South Omo in Ehtiopia, one of the hottest and driest areas on earth.

With your support not only he is determined to cross the finish line and hit his fundraising goal, but is also aiming to become the fastest Master of a City of London Livery Company to run the marathon in office!

Our client appointed us to help with site support on this award winning property.

They were looking for minimal support as they were experienced self builders. However, they wanted someone in the background should anything go wrong.

Our Project Manager Karim provided hands on support when the clients needed advice and assistance, and stepped away when they were ok on their own.

This eco home was designed to be close to passivhaus with complex renewables so our client wanted an independent consultant to keep an eye on the build.

We love this project, and our clients were delighted that Karim was on hand to fill in any gaps in their knowledge and understanding.

We were recently appointed to carry out site support on this riverside project.
Our role was to oversee the groundworks phase which included constructing the basement and slab structure.

Works included:
◾Demolishing the existing building and replacing with a modern bungalow
◾Digging out the basement
◾The close proximity to the river made the start on site difficult as the site kept flooding over the winter months
◾During the basement dig, a de-watering system had to be used around the clock to pump out the ground water
◾A canti-levered slab was then poured which sat on top of the basement and projected out of the ground by about 1.5m

Over the years CLPM have supported a number of clients who are combining a renovations with improving the accessibility to future proof their homes. This project shows how it is possible to make these changes without sacrificing style and design.

As a busy couple approaching retirement age, our clients were keen to use a project management company to plug the gaps in their expertise and give them the security of expert oversight and support their building project. Our role was to help coordinate and facilitate the build, keep a control of the project building costs from the design stage and then find and appoint a build team before overseeing the construction works once onsite. As the project involved construction up to the next door church buildings we also helped our clients liaise with additional 3rd parties such as the diocese, occupational therapists and structural engineers.

Our clients had been working up their plans with their architect and were in the final stages of selecting a contractor. They wanted to appoint a contract administrator to bring their project to fruition.

So what is a contract administrator and why do you need one?
A Contract Administrator is an essential role that checks and monitors what is contractually agreed is what happens. A contract administrator essentially manages contracts made between building contractors, employers, and clients.

The role of a contract administrator will generally include:

🏠Ensuring that the works are progressing in accordance with the contract programme and therefore that the completion date is achieved by the parties.
🏠Report to the employer on progress of works.
🏠Supervising works and inspecting works.
🏠Providing instructions to the contractor.
🏠Managing defects.
🏠Determining applications for an extension of time.
🏠Managing adjustments to the contract price.
🏠Keeping records. This could include keeping records of site visits, correspondence etc.
🏠Certifying works and issuing Practical Completion Certificates.
