What did I learn in Charlotte this week?
To fear not trying a lot more than any potential setback! If Artemis can shoot for the moon so can we.
Back in the UK, people keep asking me:Ā āWhy Charlotte?ā usually followed very quickly by:Ā āā¦and where exactly is Charlotte?ā I can now answer with confidence that it is probably the best kept secret in the USA.
What Iāve found here is hard to ignore: opportunity, energy, openness, and a genuine willingness to help. The southern hospitality is absolutely real. And yes, Iāll admit it Iāve always had a soft spot for a southern accent ever since watchingĀ North and SouthĀ as a kid.
But what has really stood out is the mindset.
In the UK, we can be exceptionally good at identifying reasons something may not work. Sometimes too good. We can spend six months pressure-testing an idea, examining every possible downside, and convincing ourselves to move cautiously.
Here, the instinct feels different.
There seems to be far less fear around giving something a go. More willingness to back people, test ideas, learn quickly, and build momentum. Not blindly. Not recklessly. But with belief.
And that difference matters.
Because while failure will always be part of building anything worthwhile, the greater danger is often never getting started at all.
A huge thank you toĀ Michael TedenĀ ofĀ Whitehall Advisory GroupĀ for his never ending support and his genuine commitment to helping us land successfully. When youāre entering a new market, that kind of belief and generosity means a great deal.
Itās safe to say, Iāve become one of Charlotteās biggest cheerleaders.
So if anyone wants to hear more about why weāre building here, what weāre seeing on the ground, or why I think more UK businesses should be paying attention to Charlotte, as many of you know, Iām always happy to talk.
What do you think holds businesses back more: fear of failure, or fear of trying?
