This is one of the most iconic pools in the world. It took me years to make this shot happen. It is an homage to the famous Faye Dunaway Oscar shot. As I was working on a series titled “a few moments in history” other icons of this time like Rita Hayworth, Howard Hughes, and Jack Nicholson were some of my subjects of choice. This was shot on my 8 by 10 camera with very early in the morning.

When I was around nine years old, I had a bad dream. I had lots of them and still do but this was one of my “wide awake dreams” when I was supposedly not asleep. I dreamt of a very old thin man with a crinkled crepe paper face with black eyes, in a black suit, standing over my bed. He was being supported by these celestial beings of shiny gold light who seemed to be holding him up. I was frozen as was to be expected, as I am always frozen in these sort of instances as it seemed to be part of the rules of waking dreams or what I have come to know as “Sleep Paralysis”. Anyway, I was eventually able to get up and run into my older brother’s room and lay down underneath his bed. He never let me get into bed with him so the rule was I could lay under his bed if I wanted to. He asked me what was wrong and I told him that Dean Martin and the Golddiggers were in my room and that they wanted to drink my blood. He asked me with some concern in his voice if it was an Alien wanting to probe me...such things were often in the news back then. I got a bit angry and said “NO, it wasn't a fricken Alien”. For some reason I was more comfortable with the idea of a crinkled and old and slightly inebriated Dean Martin of the infamous Rat Pack with a martini glass of my blood….it's worth noting I rather liked the Golddiggers.
