A brief summery on the autumn 2025 Budget — and how it impacts UK Businesses, International Trade and Investment with the UK, children and families;

UK Businesses:
The Budget offers permanent business-rate relief for retail, hospitality and leisure, alongside a 40% investment allowance to encourage capital spending. However, higher National Living Wage rates and increased taxes on dividends and property income raise operating costs. The result is support for high-street businesses but tighter margins for labour-intensive firms.

International Trade:
Removing the tax exemption on low-value parcels aims to protect UK retailers from cheap global imports. While this helps domestic sellers compete fairly, it may raise prices for consumers and reduce small-scale import activity. Trade becomes more balanced but slightly costlier.

Investment in the UK:
A three-year stamp duty holiday for newly listed UK shares and incentives for clean energy, nuclear and infrastructure aim to attract long-term, growth-oriented investors. Yet higher taxes on passive income could deter landlords and dividend-focused investors. The Budget favours productive investment over speculative returns.

Children and Families:
Scrapping the two-child benefit cap is a major social shift, expected to lift many children out of poverty and ease financial pressure on large families by improving access to essentials like food, heating and education.

Energy bill reductions and wage increases provide relief for lower-income households. However, frozen tax thresholds may push middle-income families into higher tax bands over time, offsetting some gains.

Overall, the Budget balances fiscal discipline with targeted support, boosts investment incentives, and prioritises vulnerable families while introducing new cost pressures elsewhere.
