Through horrific circumstances, I discovered not only is it possible to work part-time as a startup Founder and CEO, but also that my business is better for it!
Just before Christmas, the love of my life got sick with the most severe form of colic.
He was given zero chance to live unless he had major surgery and only 20% even if he did. 😔
In hospital, the vet warned us that ‘if’ he did get through the operation, the care needed to recover would be intensive and asked if we were prepared to take on that level of responsibility, cost and time.
So in that moment I said I could and WOULD do anything to save his life.
Afterall, through my own pandemic mental health battle, he had saved me! ❤️🩹
When we received the call on Christmas Eve to say he had survived the operation and was doing well, it felt like a miracle.
From that moment, my 2 day a week hobby became my main priority as I took on the new role of Equine Nurse. 👩⚕️
For the past 8 weeks I’ve cared for him 6 hours a day and watched him miraculously heal from an illness that almost killed him.
But more than that, the time I spent with him, watching sunrise and sunset outdoors each day has healed something in me too.
I no longer feel burned out, stressed and exhausted.
And, despite only working part time, January was a record month in sales and growth for ✨
So, I’ve decided that working 5 hours per day ‘works for me’ as a startup founder and CEO.
I’m going to keep to this part-time work routine as I am happier, healthier and way more productive than working the crazy 80 hour weeks. 💪
It just goes to show, sometimes the most disastrous circumstances can lead to positive outcomes.
And that wellness of the founder is the foundation for startup business success. 🚀
What would/did it take for you to reevaluate your priorities?
