The total NHS workforce has been growing year on year.

But patient need is outpacing it. People are living longer, presenting with more complex conditions, and expecting faster access to care.

Here's what the data tells us right now:

🔹 100,000+ posts are unfilled across the NHS in England, a vacancy rate of 6.7% as of late 2025.
