Racism is becoming trendy again. When you’ve seen your own people harm each other, you learn quickly that hatred is more complicated than skin colour.
For years, I chose focus over distraction. Growth over grievance. But today, as racism becomes fashionable again in politics and media, we must think more deeply. We are 7 billion people of colour on an 8 billion person planet.
The real question isn’t victimhood. It’s power. Influence. Narrative. Africa holds nearly 20% of the world’s population, yet produces less than 2% of global published content. If we don’t tell our stories, AI will define us without us.
This is why we publish. This is why we speak. This is why I believe everyone has a part to play. Do your part. Tell your story.

The Y2K moment taught us a hard truth: technology doesn’t reward hope it rewards preparation. Systems didn’t fail because people acted early, learned fast, and took responsibility. Today, with AI and digital tools everywhere, the real gap isn’t access it’s readiness. Africa doesn’t lack ideas or opportunity; we lack preparation. AI isn’t magic, it’s leverage. The future belongs to those who build skills before opinions, discipline before excuses, and responsibility before blame. Learn from the past. Prepare for what’s already here.

Africa is adding 35 million young people to the job market every year but creating only 3–4 million jobs. At the same time, we welcome 45 million new babies annually. These numbers should wake us up.

The solution isn’t waiting for governments or institutions. It starts with you and me. If even 1% of Africans taught what they already know to 100 people, we could skill more people than those entering the job market.

This is why self-education, skill-sharing, and publishing African knowledge matter. Teach what you know. Help someone grow. That’s how we build opportunity, dignity, and a stronger Africa faster than we think.

Today, I had the honour of visiting the First Deputy Katikkiro, Owek. Prof. Twaha Kaawaase, as we conclude our audit under the Publishing Africa campaign. Buganda stands out as one of the most organised monarchies in the world a living system where every clan, institution, and citizen is connected to governance, culture, and legacy. This visit marks an important step in documenting, preserving, and publishing the story of a kingdom that has successfully blended tradition with structure, continuity, and relevance in the modern world.
