At GAIL's newest London bakery at Orchard Place, the design does a lot of quiet work – considered materials, natural light, and a layout that feels unhurried even when it’s busy. Running through the space is a long, oval bench in our Quarry material, curved and panelled, acting as a natural focal point for the room.

Quarry is made from 100% recycled and recyclable PET plastic packaging – a rich red shade that sets the tone, with a visual appearance that sits somewhere between lava and volcanic sediment, tonally reminiscent of the sea-soaked beach at Black Rock Sands. Lighter specks of the material’s former life glint through for added impact, a fiery surface solution that blazes a trail in what’s possible for organic-inspired commercial interiors.

Would-be waste, given a second life worth noticing.

A few weeks back we welcomed the brilliant .defined to our corner of South Wales, to tell Smile’s story in moving image.

Our factory sits on the edge of one of the UK’s first Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A wild coast path, shifting colours, views that stop you in your tracks. It’s the landscape that inspires many of our collection materials, and a daily reminder of why it’s worth protecting.

When it’s windy, it can literally take your breath away. And when it rains it can hit you horizontally. But you should see it when the skies clear.

South Wales doesn’t do halfway.
