It looks and feels like a normal toilet, but protects sensitive habitats and works perfectly off-grid. Our toilet system saves water and produces energy, the opposite of today’s toilet status quo. Quick to set up, and simple to service and operate, the Loowatt system is a sustainable, closed-loop, waste treatment solution. We work with communities around the world who do not have access to safe sa
nitation, as well as with the eco-tourism and events sectors in the UK. Applications:
- Domestic and community use where safe sanitation is not in place
- Portable toilets
- Glamping and eco-tourism
- Festivals and events
- Construction
- UK Toilet hire - our toilets can be hired through A1 https://a1groupcomp.co.uk/
Benefits:
- Innovative design provides high-standard toilet experience
- Hygienic and odour-free
- Water and chemical free
- Opportunity to create biogas or fertilizer from waste
The System:
- A liner replaces the function of water within the toilet bowl, drawing waste down and out of the bowl with each flush
- The waste is securely sealed within a barrel below the toilet, when full the barrel is replaced
- Full barrels can be passed through an anaerobic digester to convert waste into biogas or natural fertilizer, or transported to a local waste processing facility. Having gained support from the InnovationRCA Incubator in 2010, we have built an impressive multidisciplinary network of collaborators, and won a Grand Challenges Explorations grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2011 to “create the next generation of sanitation technologies.”
Our systems are currently in use in the UK, Madagascar and the Philippines. See our Madagascar page here: www.facebook.com/LoowattMadagascar
