🇩🇰 A fantastic couple of days in Copenhagen for this year's 3daysofdesign - as ever, it did not disappoint. The Danish festival takes it to another level in approaching sustainable design and ensuring the right materials are at the heart of this approach.
Here are some highlights:
⚡️ A thought provoking panel discussion at the Designmuseum Danmark about shaping future consumption - Danish brands VOLA A/S and Pandora joined academics and trend researchers to discuss materials, responsibility and the evolution of design.
⚡️Some great conversations with brands about changing the consumer mindset from a throwaway industry to one where quality, longevity and repair are built into product design while remaining commercially viable. Fatboy the Original and Ocee & Four Design bear this in mind during design.
⚡️Modular and adjustable solutions were evident all over Copenhagen, feeding into a strategy to become more conscious of environmental impact. These solutions can simply be adapted to life as it changes, rather than having to buy everything new and ultimately consuming less. -N-D and were great examples of this.
⚡️Sustainable thinking is at the heart of design - the question isn't 'can it be recycled at the end of its life?' but how do we design it from the beginning, with the right materials so that it is circular. The notion of 'we will only use what we need' is not a novelty, but much considered. Products from Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrik and FÓLK demonstrate this through their designs.
Further discussions covered the importance of the regulations such as the EU's , the role of design at a time of shifting values and climate pressures and the importance of designing with , to name a few!
👉🏻 Circular design and thinking is no longer a novelty, it's essential to future proof your business.
